Armed police have responded to an ongoing incident at the Park Inn Hotel on West George Street.

Police confirm suspect is dead and six other people currently in hospital for treatment
Assistant chief constable Steve Johnson said in a statement:
The individual who was shot by armed police has died. Six other people are in hospital for treatment to their injuries including a police officer, who is in a critical but stable condition.
We are continuing to deal with the incident on West George Street #Glasgow and would ask people to avoid the area. We would urge the public not to speculate about this incident or share unconfirmed information on social media.

Armed police were seen entering the Park Inn hotel, while workers in surrounding offices were ordered to stay inside.

One witness, who gave his name as John, said two people who he believed to be staff members had been stabbed inside the hotel.

He said he came down from the third floor of the hotel to see the reception area covered in blood.

“One receptionist had been stabbed behind the reception desk,” he said.

“And then when I went down to the entrance I shouted at him and told him to stay calm and I will call for help.

"When I went to the entrance I saw another receptionist was fighting for his life and had been stabbed."

Mohammad N Asif, chair of Afghan Human Rights Foundation, wrote on Twitter that it was being used to house asylum seekers during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am told by an asylum seeker resident in the hotel that they are not allowed to speak to anyone, he said many people have been stabbed by knives,” he added.

The hotel has been used as accommodation for asylum seekers during the Covid crisis. (I think it's Raddison, although I heard the BBC calling it IBIS).

It's near Sarti's, if you know the city centre.

I know nothing about this incident so it may be unrelated but I've mentioned on a couple of other threads I'm finding the general atmosphere quite tense at the moment out and about. A lot of frustration and anger out there.

He said: "I saw a man lying on the ground, of African descent, with no shoes on. He was on the ground with someone holding his side - I don't know if it was a bullet wound, a stab wound, or what it was."

Mr Milroy said the man was one of the four taken away by medics and believed him to be a victim of an attack.“

Right wingers on social media are concluding he’s the suspect. This is not what witnesses believe.

We’re better off waiting for things to be confirmed than recounting speculation from social media.
