Well I for one completely missed that defence policy, the defence industry and armaments production were his main areas of expertise.

I expect that he will bring to the role the same forensic analysis that he did to the question of Brexit voting bike thieves in Stoke and seating arrangements for lady drinkers in Wigan.

We can all sleep a little more safely in our beds tonight knowing that Paul will be bringing forward a social democratic analysis to the task of defeating Putin..
