Couple of pics from my last night in Lisbon. It was a bit special. I first met 'a person' in Aix en Provence many years ago. She just happened to remember my blog, saw I was in Lisbon, and came and found me. She now lives here. We had a fabulous evening with great company - nuclear fusion physicist, astro physicist, and others...

Incredible moon rise from 'my friends' new apartment.

Me working with a cool little guy from India.

The family from India are off to Germany. It was essentially their leaving do. So, how do you make a living from nuclear fusion, and astrophysics research? They are looking for a very illusive answer that no company with an economical interest in oil (all companies basically) would ever be likely to pay for.

I know very little about this sort of stuff, and probably bored them stupid with dumb questions. That said, I had a great time teaching someone how to draw. I think I was appreciated on that level at least.

And, now I know a whole load of shit about how to get funding to be an independent research scientist. I may post more pictures on my blog, and explain much more. Just waiting for my friends to say it is OK, because they are actually working in a very sensitive area. May all be OK today, but who knows what the future holds?

See what sort of life this street bum, alcoholic artist has?

It is cold. Haven't made any money here. I was sort of expecting that. Would really like another layer (and a couple of beers to get me through the night), but I think it is looking like I just go find a place to cook.

I'm getting very bored of this...
Onion.
Potato.
Beet thing.
Tomato.

Bought a small bag of giblets from the butchers. Have a little bottle of soy from the other night with the beautiful girls from Egypt and London. Have a bit of olive oil left after the spillage.

I'm in for a tough walk tomorrow unless get a lucky break in the morning. Some guy offered a bed in a squat. Hasn't shown up yet.

Olive oil spillage is a nightmare. Think I have to buy a new backpack, and new/second hand clothes. And, possibly a new sleeping bag. And, new pens. And, lots of other new bits and pieces. Will probably be boiling and steaming from now on.

I guess washing stuff isn't an option you've given much consideration to...

Soap powder and a bucket of water (foraged) maybe €2

Nah. You need hot water to get rid of olive oil. €8 for the wash. €2 for the soap, plus €4 for the dryer. Not easy to find places in the city, or small towns where you can dry properly and cleanly. Secondhand shop, €1 for shirt. €1 for a couple of T-shirts. Bought new jeans for €10, and a pack of 5 pairs of socks for €2, plus underwear. Old stuff will hit the clothes recycling bin.

Stayed at a squat last night. No water, but electricity. Cooked my free food. Will probably leave sketch with them. No-one here to sell to, and I need to move on. My plan is to find a coastal resort I can work for a week to give my foot a good rest.

Financially, I am in shit street again.
