League 2 (old Division 4) 2021/22

Today's results left most of it still up in the air; Vale understandably down about losing to Port and reckon they're not in a position to do us any favours against Exeter final game, not that we look likely to beat Mansfield anyhow. Still, chance remains!

Been a very strange league this season. Two absolutely gash sides deservedly relegated, but from about 11th / 12th upwards all really much of a muchness. Only fifteen points between Exeter and 11th placed Newport County certainly tells a story that there's not much between the sides other than consistency and a bit of luck.

Campiones! Outstanding! Looking grim when we again shipped a poor one to Stags, but lovely Vale did us a favour down in Exeter and we came from behind twice to get the point that put us top with much better GD. First title since the Southern League!
Real story of the day was the gas putting seven past Scunny's kids to pip poor old Cobblers for third despite them winning, they must be gutted.

Mixed emotions.

Can't be disappointed at promotion, especially in that manner, but I've been boycotting Rovers since we appointed Joey Barton, especially since he's about to face trial for beating his wife.

Glad we'll be in League One next season, but hopefully it will be without Barton as manager.

Finished off with a 1-0 win against Orient but it was too little too late to make any real effort to get the last play off spot. I can see a lot of player changes of the summer as the old guard retire or are let go at the end of their contracts. I hope that the players who come in can overcome the hoodoo that seems to jinx us with lack of confidence and inability to pass the ball to feet. Roll on August and the 22/23 season.

Rob Edwards fucked off for Watford then. Not sure if that's the right move but can't begrudge him, unlike DV who has put out a very salty official statement :D

Vale and Stags to contest the play-off final then, was expecting Swindon to get through last night but very flat first half apparently. Have to feel a bit for Northampton too after that final day. More silliness with a pitch invasion too, something in the water recently.

Forgot it was the PO final today, sounds like Vale carried on the momentum from that semi comeback and came out the traps on fire, then Mansfield lad got himself sent off for silly second yellow at 2-0 down and only 35 mins in and it was all over bar the shouting. Pleased for vale, good club, decent owner (did loads of free meals during lockdown etc) and helped us get over the line last day of regular season.

So happy for Darrell Clarke at Port Vale. He's a Bristol Rovers legend for getting us two successive promotions and plenty of us would prefer he was in charge to Joey Barton.

He lost his young daughter earlier this year and had to take a couple of months off, so just very chuffed for him to be able to finish the season like this.
