League 2 (old Division 4) 2021/22

Sounded like we were lucky to hang in for the draw against an understrength Exeter on a terrible run of form. Think it was a combo of them having us sussed and the wherewithal to stop our wing play and bad day at office from our POV. About only positive is we would have lost that last season.

We survived the return of the ex-manager. Scunthorpe made all the running in the first 10 minutes but as soon as our 1st goal went in the game turned our way. Our new loanee from Rangers impressed and added a fair bit to our attacks. We had good goals from all four players and it helped our goal difference no end. 6th win in a row and 5th with a clean sheet takes us up to 2nd.

Got past Colchester with a couple of scares on the way, leading by an early Jamma effort when they nearly snatched a draw at the death but cleared off the line, then Us defender made a mistake and march nipped in to seal it. Fifty one points at halfway point! Nine clear and a game in hand and twelve clear for an auto spot. Amazing because we're a mid-table squad really. Been some luck but mostly down to new manager you'd say.

Pegged back at the absolute death away at Northampton. They started much brighter but we grew into it and nicked a lead which might not have gone over the line then looked to be seeing it out comfortably until last minute of injury time when in another controversy they equalised with one of ours down with a head injury. Decent point on the road in cold light of day I suppose.

Solid win in the end there against a Carlisle side who'd been finding a bit of form and were in it until they sliced one into their own net early and we seemed to just keep piling on until we ran out pretty comfortable winners, same side as got all of three minutes in the fog abandoned game midweek. All set up nicely for the trip to Prenton where the Lilywhites are on a surge.

Another win by one goal against Crawley scored by Jay Spearing. Nicely placed in 2nd spot with a tasty game next week against FGR.

Today's the day, should be good, Tranmere have sold out the home ends and we might even crack three hundred to rattle around in the away section, which would be excellent by our lights. Hard to call, tight defences and decent form, hope it's not a stupid ref decision decides it.

Wow. So much for tight defences! Congrats.

Perfect showing from our POV bar the missed late pen, which would have been greedy, Tranmere seemed a bit disjointed to start then the game got away from them. What a season we're having.

Unbelievable. Coming into this game with a 10 game unbeaten run and then it all went down the drain. I was due to attend but got a positive PCR notification just before I was due to travel. Glad I wasn't there now. Just hope that we can bounce back and keep going.

Sure you will and you're still well set for the autos. Caught us on a day when it all clicked.
ETA And get well soon!

Another tough away tie tonight, though Vale have slipped back a bit, but they beat us comprehensively in the reverse tie. We were out of sorts after the Brentford cup game that day but also struggled with their pressing. Win this and will really believe, though as it stands reckon nine more wins will get us automatic.

Home game v Stevenage tonight. We seem to have been busy with some loan signings over the last couple of days so hope these pan out and don't destabilize what was a fairly decent team before last Saturday's match.

Well, Vale nearly repeated their job on us last time, we were lucky to get to the half one down. Improved with the wind second half on a bobbly pitch and managed an equaliser unmarked from a corner. Cadden was out and maybe RE got the selection a bit worng, took some changes at HT to turn it around a bit, including Adams on who must still be jet lagged coming back from AFCON. Good to nick a point on a tough night against a Vale side that will likely push on now they're over their injury crisis.
See Tranmere back to winning by the odd goal which has seen them in such good stead to date, Barrow winning was a bonus.

Just reading Oldham have sold getting on for 1600 away tickets for their game at Scunny this weekend, given their season and the state of the club that's outstanding.

Massive win against a Newport side bang in form, they pressed hard from the start but created little for Telford or the rest and we had two goals from our Wilson-Matty Stevens combo and saw it out with few scares and some decent chances; fourteen points clear of fourth now and surely this has to be our year.

Keep on keeping on; bit flat against a well organised Dale side who fortunately lack a bit up front, though they still took the lead. That woke us up a bit and despite not still really firing turned it round. albeit helped by a bit of poor keeping for the winner but deserved it in the end. At the other end it's opening up again with Sheridan starting to work his magic for Oldham, Carlisle or Walsall might be dragged into it. Even Scunny won though that's probably too little too late.

Well earned point away at Sutton who made better of the conditions and pitch first half and went ahead with cracking free kick. We got on top after break and got a lovely equaliser. then had big late pen shout but could have gone either way and with other results can't complain. Sixteen points clear of fourth!

Oh dear, Orient. The wheels have come off since my last visit (an impressive 4-1 win over Swindon), and they looked abject and deflated once they conceded on the way to another miserable 2-0 defeat to an ordinary Salford side, who hardly had to raise a sweat to contain, then dispatch, us. That’s no wins and just 2 goals for 2 months as we plummet down the table.

Still, it was nice to meet up with some old friends for a hospitality lunch and posh directors balcony seats, then say hi to a few muckers in the Supporters Club afterwards. Curiously, nobody I spoke too seemed overly distraught about our current tumble. Mostly gallows humour and grumbles rather than gnashing of teeth and calls for the gaffer’s head.

Tranmere's game against Walsall was dire. Neither side really looked Iike they were going trouble the other and it was just the penalty that did for us. Walsall have plenty of off the pitch issues with a lack of home crowds, issues over their Fan Liaison Officer siding with the chairman rather than the fans, social club closed down and boarded up etc.

Also victims of RESURGENT Saddlers - well, they were pretty good, pressing hard and gritty and we never got going so deservedly beat and end of a long run. Other results meant not too much harm done, interesting to see how they pick themselves up.

We came up against a much improved Port Vale. We should have had the game well in hand but PV kept battling away and equalized in the 94th minute.
We have an away game on Saturday against Newport which we really need to win to keep in with a chance of automatic promotion.

Back to back defeats; would be a bit nervy but fortunately none of the chasers fared much better. Started really well but then game changed after an injury to a Crawley player and the replacement was pacey enough to do us a couple of times with simple balls over the top. Finally gave it a go late but never really in it, though had a late potential equaliser disallowed for prior push.

Glad I hadn't gone down to Newport now. The first 45 minutes were evens but then in the second half the Exiles were all over us and got two goals in quick succession. We came back but then let it slip in the last ten minutes and ended up with a 4 - 2 loss.

Didn't crawl out of bed to listen last night but pleased with the point. Sounds like we could have been further behind at the half but stepped it up second and were level before Newport had a man sent off and ended up hanging on, but we couldn't quite make it count. Other results still largely helping too, so gap remains healthy, but most of all sounds like a solid performance to stop the blip, though going behind early again always got to be a concern.

We've got a big match on Saturday away against Northampton. It's a must win for us with Exeter having 3 games in hand on us and only 1 point behind us.

Tough point at Salford having gone behind yet again, then mostly us on top but not really looking like running out with a win after we got back in it, definitely on a bit of a slump and could do with any win from somewhere but still with a decent cushion and looking resilient so not need to panic.

Something is not right with the Tranmere team. They have gone to shit over the last 4-5 games. Instead of playing the ball along the ground, they are hoofing into the air. Today we had to combat the swirling wind at Northampton's ground and they should have quickly realised that hoofing it wasn't going to work but no this is what the stuck to and ended up going behind by 2 goals in the first half. The second started in much the same way and by the 66th minute we were 3 goals down. Many fans started to leave as it didn't look like the team knew what to do. Then after a few substitutions we suddenly had one goal back and the team were passing it more along the ground. Then we had a penalty given as the team were pushing more and more towards Northampton's goal and now it's 3-2 and everyone is getting nervous. Only problem was the referee didn't want to penalise Town's goalie for consistent time wasting and they hung on for their win.
Micky has to change the tactics or he's going to lose the fans backing and ultimately his job if the results keep going against us.
