Jihadi Jack wants to come back because he misses Dr Who

I’m concerned about some people trying to devalue his ability to make choices as his own actor.

Just because what he chose to do was abhorrent- supporting a slave owning theocracy - doesn’t mean mean he wasn’t competent. It showed ( misplaced in my opinion) courage and skills and probably a fair degree of intelligence of both kinds to get from The UK to the IS. I am concerned about people who try to infantilise BME people as not being as responsible for their actions as white men of any age.

Anyway, I both hate and fear him and his fellow IS comrades. That’s my starting point.

I’m not sure there is a good solution. The best is to see if he makes it back to the UK and then try him as a criminal and deal with her punishment and rehabilitation like that. The American Gitmo approach both didn’t work and was wrong and the Russian shooting people in the head approach is also wrong and makes us into something we don’t want to be.

I think maybe this is down to a lack of knowledge as to who’s out there as much as anything else and that many of these shit-sticks don’t really come to prominence until they try to return. Do we even know who’s out there to any degree of accuracy, let alone which ones have dual citizenship?

In the case of Letts however, I think we’ve been aware of his dual citizenship for some time so the fact that he’s not yet been stripped would seem to indicate incompetence on the part of brother Javid, as you say.

Also, HMG doesn't tend to give hospital passes to five eyes countries.

I take the stand with this guy that I do with Begum, if the Kurds want to put them on trial then fine but if so then in her case we should promptly demand the handover of her child. If the Kurds don't want anything to do with them (and the others, there are a couple of dozen not just these pair) then it is beholden on us to accept them back, stick them on trial and punish if convicted, I would personally hope
Jack spends the rest of his life looking at the world through bars. The only relevant difference between this guy and Begum is that this guy is genuinely a dual citizen rather than a Javid defined dual citizen. In which case then it's up to the UK and Canadian government to decide which one gets him even if comes down to a coin toss between a couple of army officers on a runaway in Kurdistan as to which plane he gets stuffed on, it's preferable to a game of musical chairs over who can de-nationalise him first.
Since it is clear that the Assad regime has largely won the Syrian conflict, then at some point I suspect all the local ISIS and those from places like Egypt or Pakistan are going to be lined up in front of a ditch and machine gunned. The Syrians don't hold with soft liberal ideas like trials, fair or otherwise. It is of course grossly unjust that jihadi's born in a 1st World country effectively get treated better than those from anwhere else but you can't argue "Since Most Won't Get a Trial, None Should".
The ability to strip people of their nationality has got to be a no-no since it effectively renders anyone who has an ancestor in the last 3 generations from a country that allows dual citzesnhip a second class British citizen and that's not acceptable.
