Is there a new fashion for 'workwear'?

I keep meeting cool young people wearing aprons, fluorescent jackets and trousers, protective boots etc, and variations on the original, functional stuff. I even met a Japanese guy wearing what looked like an old fashioned carpenters apron, another wearing a smock.

I fully appreciate the desire for real, manual jobs from young people stuck behind a Windows interface all day, but if you want to wear the gear... go get a fucking real job. Do the graft. Live on the pay.

Condescending attitude of the spoiled youth of our times hey?

I noticed a while ago that Carhartts were popular in some urban circles. Around here, its just work wear you buy at the farm store.

Barn coats seem to be popular with politicians trying to get votes from "the little people." You have to wonder how many of them have ever seen the inside of a barn.

Just to be clear, do they definitely not need to wear it? Do they work, or are they wearing it to carry out a task? Because people are quite often surprised to see me in hi-viz (well, they could hardly miss me!) because they assume I'm always in an office. (I've got a hard hat, protective boots, the lot. I secretly quite like it).

One of my jobs required me to wear steel cap shoes. I still wore them on occasion after the job. When they finally disintegrated I bought another pair cos I like them.

What's a real job?

The kids on the street start wearing work clothes as they're better quality (Levi's, Doc Martens) The items get associated with a subculture, The Market moves in and mass produces inferior copies. Rinse and repeat.

I still like Carharrt stuff from back when it was reasonably fashionable back in the 90's. I'll be quite pleased if it's back in. I'll probably wait for someone other than Stan to confirm if this is the case mind.

Carharrt never stopped being cool

I guess it's a bit more in for young people again because of that whole 90s logo trend coming back in.

I must have really missed the trends for the last 30 years. I can't think of anything more lacking in cool than how most men look in them:

Do you think Carharrt only do men's jeans :hmm:

No, I have some flannel work shirts made by them. I don't think they're particularly fashionable either, just decent quality that holds up a while. I wear them when I go hiking because you don't notice the dirt, sweat, and leaves in my hair as much.

Yeah the actual work wear lines aren't particularly fashionable. They are quite different to the streetwear line and the collaborations. It's a different style aimed at and consumed by a different demographic.
