Is America heading towards dictatorship?

Who is the arbiter of "shit posts?"

It comes across as if only those who have been around for a while can post, as they only speak sense and wisdom, when people are attacked like this. There's discussion and debate, and downright rudeness for no reason. Disagree with someone by all means, but don't talk to them like shit, because you apparently know better.
Coming out with nonsense which when questioned has no evidence to support it is treating everyone here like shit. And believe you me new posters here get a far easier ride than they did a few years back.

Me, and I don't discriminate between silly old cunts and new cunts on the block.

It's clearly heading in a less democratic direction and I think Russia is a good comparison, the formal structures of democracy, like elections, will remain but they will have no real meaning. However it will take longer than 4 years for that to happen, and the problem for the right is who they stand in 4 years? Trump can't stand again and even if they think they can get away with changing things so he could his age is a factor as well. There is no guarantee his support can just be transferred over to someone else. I think the direction of travel is clear but it may not be a straight line.
I think a lot depends whether the Project 2025 guys get whoever they want in after him, namely a lovely, clean cut Christian Nationalist father of 6 (by one woman, mind). If they do that, watch out for 'American' being redefined as 'white and Christian'

Anyway, getting back to my original point as per the thread, I think if Trump tries to emulate his hero Putin, puts yes men and women into the US institutions, no checks and balances, lifts regulations it could have a detrimental effect on the US economy.

Yes, you already said about 5,000 times. Just because you feel so superior doesn't mean anyone else is interested in your boring, pedantic, repetitive shit stirring or is going to bend the knee and follow your strict style of posting you find acceptable. Change the fucking record and get used to it.
Being told to “change the fucking record and get used to it” is about the classiest response you’ve managed so far, in that it contained no albeist memes; so it seems you’ve taken on some feedback already.

I think you probably meant “change the record OR get used to it” though, so still room for improvement.

If you keep up the good work, perhaps in a few years I may deem some of your posts worthy of a like.

If you were to peer into the history of the last century you'd see numerous dictatorships supported by the United States. You're ignoring the auld adage that it's better to keep quiet and be thought a fool than pipe up and prove yourself one.
I read your posts and, for some unknown reason, this always pops into my head:

New(er) posters might not be aware (and why would they be?) of the Boards' history and why this leaves remains of a demand for rigour in politics discussion. There was a time when these discussions could feature real experts in niche fields, wielding significant knowledge with specialist lenses.

This is far less the case now (though the levels of expertise you might stumble across from time to time can still surpass anything found elsewhere) but longer-term posters may continue to have little patience for superficial, banal or ignorant assertions.

I agree that rigour and politeness are not mutually exclusive, but I also understand the frustration with how the dumbed down nature of internet discourse has infected even here.

So, a plea from me (which you are all free to do what will with), match the tone of your posts with the level of your expertise. Tentative opinions should not have the same air of certainty as knowledge informed analysis (although the best of that accepts a loss of certainty too).

I know I'm an old man shaking my fist at the sky, but I'm going to shake that fist anyway.

The problem with so many new posters making poor quality posts is they give the impression to other new posters that poor quality posts are acceptable

That is why shit quality posts need to be challenged
Yes.

The Internet does not entertain all opinions and viewpoints and this Forum is absolutely rigid, inflexible and unyielding in maintaining standards.

Of course, longstanding Members are allowed to post bollocks because they've earned the right, newcomers should know their place.

WTF was that AV place like? Was it all "no, after you Cuthbert" or summat? First hint of flak for shite-posting and they seem to lose their bearings completely.
It was over-Moderated and you weren't allowed to truly voice your opinions, no matter how well nor badly-informed you were.

This section appears to be under-Moderated but you're still not allowed to truly voice your opinions, no matter how well nor badly-informed you are. And both sites share a common theme: people who regard themselves and their opinions overly highly, so try to exert their control and ownership of presentation.

The whole keyboard warrior stance is all rather sad and pathetic, really.

Maintaining standards is a good thing, no?

No, if anyone posts bollocks, they're picked up on it.

Of course you're allowed to truly voice your opinions, especially well-informed ones. But you can expect to be challenged on your opinions or asked for evidence for any assertions you make same as anyone else.

And both sites share a common theme: people who regard themselves and their opinions overly highly, so try to exert their control and ownership of presentation.
People value informed discussion. Don't you?

Oh, you're back.

So let me get this straight, you fucked off from a forum because you weren't allowed to voice your opinions and rock up here telling folk that their opinions about posting quality are not wanted.

I see.

It's an interesting request, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "level of expertise?"

I mean, I don't know about you, but I'm not an expert in anything. Nor would I want to be as it might mean I think I know it all and would no longer need to keep learning.

I also think a certain level of discourse is admirable but probably not sustainable. It's like trying to control language and meaning, when both are constantly evolving.

Having said this, I do recognise what you're saying, but it's worth bearing in mind that if posters aggressively reject and attack people for not meeting their standards, then all you're left with is a slowly decaying echo chamber which will eventually die.

What do you think I should have before posting in here?

Back OT, I notice this Congress commentator managed to screenshot this glorification of Trump's Lebensraum before it was pulled.

Interesting to consider what's really going on with this mad shite; is this cover for a Putin Ukraine deal?
