Irish Politics Thread

Who or what they are loyal to is a bit of a mystery they have never listened to Westminster either their "culture" is alien to the rest of the UK most of England would be hard pressed to tell the difference between catholic and protestant and care even less.

Does anyone have any good articles that they'd recommend on what's been going on in NI since the May elections?

I've been informed by a reliable contact in West Cork that Harris is seeing the bright side of his recent sacking - much more time to focus on his own publishing. Can't wait to see the results.
I read recently that Harris has cancer and that it's advanced. Wouldn't be surprised if he kicks the bucket before his worse nightmare comes to pass - SF in government in the south. If the cancer doesn't get him, the rage will be terminal.

Yes well they should really call themselves the "ourselves alone" party. They fit that description way better than SF does now

useful summary here

None of the events described here are mentioned in the official timeline of the ‘decade of centenaries’. Before that decade ends, at the end of this year, the government might consider acknowledging in some way that among the new Irish state’s earliest acts were the suppression of the efforts of some of its poorest citizens to improve their lot.

when my father came to the states he turned into a complete law-and-order rightwing type, but at home he seemed to have picked Michael Davitt and Liam Mellows as the best of the lot.

Not sure if correct thread but it's a fash rag, Gemma O'Doherty and a campaign against a grieving mother

BBC News - The Irish Light: Woman abused by paper which falsely said vaccine killed her son
was just reading that, infuriating.
it would also fit in the qanon thread and covid conspiracy one

it's streaming at the website but it was broadcast in one go last night. I thought it was a bit overproduced, the music heavily tipping your emotions, but the film clips were fascinating and the stories seriously affecting. the chubby ex-unionist with the gray moustache (I missed most names) told a story that sounded like it was right out of Elephant. he was a very good interview but others were too.
