Irish Politics Thread

This guy was standing again, with an election flyer that basically reproduces what it says here:

When Mrs Idris showed me his flyer - which has all that stuff on it, including the crossed Soviet and Papal flags, she said "I'm collecting odd bods, apparently".

To which I replied, "this is the oddest bod we've yet seen".
He got one vote so far.

Most of the WC areas have been counted. Looks like a FG/Lab contest now.

NP getting 100+ votes is sickening, As is Cahill's 92.

Geoghegan seems to be catching up, but Boylan is still strong, and I can't see much of her vote transferring to FG.

I'd say 100+ votes for NP isn't too bad at all, or at least it could have been a lot worse - remember that ours is a country with no real collective memory of what fascism really was, and what it meant.

True, but any encouragement is a bad thing.

Looking at the FF vote, even though she possibly was the worst candidate they could have put up their proper fucked now 4.6%.

Nelson Muntz: ha ha

I saw a tweet (can't be arsed to embed) that said 91.5% of the vote is now tallied, and IB is on 30% or thereabouts. It's not over until the banshee sings.

Alan kelly is after ripping off his shirt, snorting a lungful of chonk and predicting the resurrection of Labour.

Anyway Bacik won this.

If at first you don't succeed try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, lose in DL, try, try again. A new Hilary is born, the best of us...

That "today is a good day" is all very Klingon, isn't it.

I, for one, welcome our new warrior overlords.

Umpteen "Labour back from the dead" pieces must already be flying out of their missile silos. But is it? Someone like IB has "entitled to the leadership position" written all over her, and I can't see Alan Kelly, who is covered in the exact same motto, really going along with that one. . .

What was interesting about her campaign is that they seem to have tailored the campaign posters to the various locales in the constituency. Closer to the city centre the slogan was "worker, rebel, socialist", while out in Sandymount the colour theme was green not red, and the slogan was environmentalist, not revolutionist. That's decades of SWP bandwagon jumping at work, of course.

Expect her to be a permanent fixture on RTE from now on out to the next GE.

SF will still form the heart of the next government, mind.

Yeah outsider looking in, but yeah the Labour is back stuff tends to remind me of the same message in UK after Bately & Spen, or how the PS is "back" in Fane

So Dessie O'Malley died yesterday. The Irish Times is falling over itself to mourn his passing.

And he deserves credit for "I stand by the Republic" and the conversion to pluralism that preceded it.

But if the PDs had been able to fully implement their Thatcherite world view, the results would have been disastrous.

Well it looks like another social gathering is ruining one ex TD's hope for pension inflation! Also wtf is up with Leo, he's government approves the legislation, it's almost as though he a lazy venal muppet. And people have had to relations they can't go to communions or funerals.

And Ivana just breezes and and out...hopefully she'll be out soon.

Simon Coveney.. massive idiot. How he thought he would get away with giving / creating a job for Zappone is beyond me.
The arrogance is astounding. And he wasn't the worst of them.
Leo is turning into a shit.

Micheal Martin looking gornless not knowing what's going on.

This is the bit I least understand tbh. With a looming backbench rebellion on his hands, and having already been done over by FG more than once in the recent past, why so aimless and rudderless? There is little in the way of self-preservation in his way of strategy.

Anyway +1 to Zappone for showing up to teach the general pop. just how shameless social liberals also are, compared to the usual gombeen cronyism in da mix.

I hope that's tongue in cheek sarcasm...
She looked for a job...and would have been happy to take it no questions asked without advertising or interview.
She threw a party after she got it. Leo was at it.

She's not squeaky clean in this.

So. Katherine Zappone sleeps with the fishes.

She has now declined the UN sinecure the govt. created at her request.

Her decision to decline this particular ride on the gravy train comes after her exposure as a lockdown-busting party thrower:

Ivana "Woman of the People" Bacik was a guest at this party, apparently.
