Irish equal marriage referendum

from another thread, but apt here.

8den.

I have always considered you a complete and absolute little dick. Your behaviour the last few weeks on here - where you snipe and cat-call from the sidelines wherever you can find an audience/mob you can join is in itself alarming. That you choose, where you misread the situation and occasionally jump in too soon, to just slither off with your tails between your legs is just... sad really.

You seem like a very sad and angry little man. I hope life brings you some peace and joy soon. Or at least a shag. or something.

Another 'defeat for humanity' according to the vatican and people who spend an awful lot of time thinking about men having sex with each other.

Parliament in Germany Approves Same-Sex Marriage

BERLIN — Lawmakers in Germany voted on Friday to allow same-sex marriage after a brisk but emotional debate in Parliament, setting the stage for the country to join more than a dozen European nations — including Ireland, France and Spain — in legalizing such unions.

The historic decision came with a swiftness rare in Germany’s usually staid politics, after Chancellor Angela Merkel unexpectedly eased her conservative party’s opposition to gay marriage and said she would allow lawmakers to vote their conscience on the measure, although she ultimately voted against it.

Ms. Merkel’s softened resistance paved the way for her coalition partners in the Social Democratic Party and two other political groups to press for Friday’s vote, which passed 393 to 226, with four abstentions.

Merkel, the champion of egalitarian values, from whom we're supposed to be sorry to be parting.

Looks more like she was upholding the regressive views of the Daily Mail belt.

Australian postal survey results in, 61.6% for yes (~80% turnout). And with every state and territory giving a yes vote.

Almost certain that same sex marriage will now go through parliament, only question is how much infighting there will be in the LNP.

EDIT: Also Abbott’s electorate of Warringah voted 75% yes, not that that will stop the bigot voting against SSM but at least he can't pretend that it's because of the wishes of his electorate.

EDIT: Ha ha, twat
Warringah, the electorate of Tony Abbott, one of the strongest campaigners against marriage equality and who said a 40% no vote would be “a moral victory”, has returned the 10th highest Yes vote in the country, according to the AFR.

Still... 38% of people is quite a lot of no voters eh.

Wonder what it would be like in European countries, if polled.

A major regression for LGBT people if you ask me.

Let's have that argument once LGBT people do actually have equal rights, eh.

While LGBT activists are being murdered tortured hassled and abused around a lot of the world comments like this seem a bit glib. This is still a victory, whatever one thinks of marriage.
