International Mens Day

As I've probably said before, there are loads of things that could be discussed on IMD. I hadn't even seen it 'trailed' this year. I don't think it would have been OTT for an outlet like The Guardian to have ~3 pieces on its site. Anyway, I'd hardly call this a major 'interest' of mine, just something I noticed today.

Ooh it's almost Pavlovian on Urban.

Mention International Mens Day and see how some automatically see it as some patriarchal, MRA, anti feminist day and stand hurling anger and abuse around with ironically what looks for all intents and purposes toxic masculinity.

:D :D :D

This thread:
Lolicon (Lolita Complex)

where you defend cartoon child pornography because you're worried about losing your right to watch Cannibal Corpse.

You're right - I'm not overly concerned about cartoons. Things in cartoons don't even have ages, as essentially they don't exist. Anyway, that's another thread - please keep discussion on that in the relevant thread. Is Cannibal Corpse even a film?

It's come around again. I spotted one measly article in The Guardian about it - and it's written by a woman.

I see Karen Straughan and co. have covered it - I wouldn't watch it, but you might like that sort of thing ...

Perhaps you could do a review ?

My apologies. Cannibal Holocaust. Was just pointing out something that I thought more than a coincidence.

Maybe I'm a bit thick, but I still don't really get your point... and btw Cannibal Holocaust is a film I've always refused to watch in the longest version passed by the BBFC, but that would be for another thread.

No maybe about it. I'm trying to point out that by repeatedly taking political positions selected purely in order to defend your interests in horror movies and drugs you end up sharing common cause with paedophiles. Or worse, voting LibDem.

You have a very reductionist way of thinking about issues. And your idea of me as someone who spends all their time watching horror movies (presumably while on drugs) is somewhat off the mark. :D

Johnny Vodka do you know why IWD gets more coverage? Because women have spent a loooong time harassing, haranguing, bellyaching, kvetching or as we like to call it campaigning for this stuff.

If you would like to campaign as well, by which I mean maybe writing a searching article about something germane or boycotting the Guardian or - fuck it - holding a big party where you celebrate being blokes I for one would be delighted. But the constant going on about it not being fair just gets people's back up. See also 'why aren't we allowed to celebrate St George's Day?'

As far as I can see on Google the same women are doing the same for IMD.

It's just another platform to discuss toxic masculinity and positive gender roles, two popular feminist topics.

Well, the IMD site mentions some of those issues (eg. mental health issues) that get put under the "toxic masculinity" umbrella.
