Hungry Kidderminster woman stole Mars bars after benefit sanctions left her with no money for food

I'm also really struggling with this one. How on earth did someone at some point decide, "Yes, this is in the public interest that she be punished". How on earth did someone not just say, "You know what, here's the 75p from my pocket, don't do it again". Since when was all the time spent on this giving the taxpayer value for money?!

I'm just going to check to see if Heron Foods are on Twitter....

If she's on benefits the beak will most likely have docked them to cover the fine. I don't think there's any problems with recieving cash gifts when you're on benefits but it's worth checking.

e2a: If your benefits are docked to pay court fines and your benefits subsequently get stopped or sanctioned then the debt may get passed on to bailiffs, which will of course incur even more ridiculous costs

Am all for the fundraising. Just wary there may be a back story. I'm nailed on certain the polis up here wouldnt persue this beyond a 'restorative approach' for 1st, 2nd even 3rd offences. Mate of mine has a drink issue and has been caught 4 times in the last year taking wine. 3 x restorative, apologise and bow down to the store manager plus 1 x caution.

Not that i give a fck what shes done in the past. Nicking a 3 pack of mars bars is nothing at all and the actions of the magistrates are disgusting.

Cheers. Sorry didnt read properly. Anyway those who donate do so for their own reasons and within their own beliefs. I'll donate by the way. She can spend it on whatever she likes for me. Her lifestyle isnt my beef. Its the shitter of a magistrates system.

Would love to see someway of the magistrates learning of the feeling about this too. Petitions are ten a penny like but cant think of much else bar an open letter penned by someone with the backing of a 'community'/group.

As if the actual story isn't bad enough, the fact that in the circumstances the scumbag judge has fined her £328 is just Dickensian.

Not a judge, a magistrate: A quasi-judge who relies on a Clerk for legal knowledge,and who sits with other magistrates, lording it over their equals.

Magistrates are terrible, what right gives these puffed up volunteer Tories who have known nothing but privilege their whole lives the right to decide over the fate of people they know nothing about and, when it comes down to it, despise?

You get a relative handful of magistrates who are non-puffed up, but they're heavily outweighed by the Tories and squirearchy -people who're magistrates because someone at the Lodge or the golf club told them it was "the thing to do".
