How many frocks have you got?

Shirl

R.I.P.
About 18 months ago I visited a friend and she showed me around her new house. In her bedroom she opened one of about 4 wardrobes and this one just had dresses hanging in it. There were well over a hundred in there. I felt a bit like a failure in the clothes department but also I realised that she mostly wore dresses and always looked good.
When I got home a couple of days later I checked out my frocks. I had hardly any. :( So I set about buying more from charity shops, on eBay and the occasional new one from a proper shop. I now wear dresses all the time for work and getting ready for work is a hundred times easier than it was before I got the frock habit.
I've just counted (my latest eBay purchase arrived today) :) and I now have 35 but I suspect that is nowhere near the amount that other frockers own.
So, how many have you got? and have you got enough?

Sorry to keep swapping between dresses/frocks. I'm more comfortable with frocks but it doesn't always sound right. Also, I'm sure I asked this question about a year ago but I can't find it

Maybe five; my proportions just aren't right for most dresses as the waistline for standard height is a lot further from the shoulder than it is on petites.

None. I am really, really bad at clothes, I just wear the same few items over and over (obviously they are washed between wears). I would like new clothes but I just feel fat and depressed when I go clothes shopping as I'm still not the size 10 I want to be

About 18. Around half of these are shift type dresses or jumper dresses so not proper dresses as such.

Just been to count, at your behest. :D
I've got forty six frocks. Blimey.

I wear frocks for work, because they are so much easier than sorting out skirts/trousers and tops, as you say. I also wear frocks for going out. Sometimes I have to go out to social events for my work. So I have three types of frock, in the main:
1. Work ones for the office that are sober colours, mostly fitted and and smart.
2. Work ones for the social events, which look like I'm going to a wedding.
3. Mad coloured ones with (mostly) bonkers patterns that I wear on my own time.

Then I've got three long dresses, all donated to me by my Mum a few years ago. I love them, there are two proper seventies "Abigail's Party" jobs and one that is an exquisite looking thing - in swirly jade green and black silk, it's diamante encrusted, draped, backless, split to the thigh. It's proper phoaaaaaaaaaaaar!
Most typically worn by glamourpusses in James Bond films and yer all round femmes fatales swanning round casinos in Monte Carlo. :D
I've never actually worn that one, mind. But one day I will.

5 on heavy rotation
1 party that slips into the heavy rotation when I get bored
2 being introduced
2 at home when other things are dirty (stained, indecent)
2 that hang there waiting for weightloss and occasion (one wedding guest, one party)
and 4 that don't fit anymore and I'm trying to work out if are too ratty for clothesswapping

I only really wear dresses anymore.

FWIW even most size 10s are seldom the shape of size 10 they'd like to be. :(

BTW I hate to say it yet again, but try shopping online and mail order - it means you'll find a lot more things in your size instead of them having sold out at your nearest "real" branch.

This is me too darling. :(
I do have one dress that I bought for a wedding earlier in the year.

wheras dresses with a defined waistline always end up with the waist several inches too high at the front because my boobs get in the way. empire waistlines tend to sit across my nipples.

I've got about 8, two of which I bought to wear to the conference i went to recently, first time i've worn dresses 2 days in a row since I was at school, I think.

half of the dresses I have are monsoon, either bought in the sale or off ebay. cause they tend to be slightly roomier over my chest.

5 or 6 maybe. I only really wear dresses to weddings or other special occasions. Almost always in jeans, if I'm going out to the pub I might wear a skirt and boots but not a dress.

I wear dresses to work purely because they are easy. No morning rush to match tops with bottoms. In Winter I just wear them with opaque tights, boots and jackets or cardis....and a "terminal" vest if it's bitterly cold. In Spring / Summer they go with sandals..
Easiest wardrobe ever.
I think I've around 15 dresses...and have gotten great wear out of them over the years. Some are woolen knitted ones. Others are jersey. All are machine wash and don't need ironing.

About 10 or 12. I work in an office and I find shift dresses practical. And I like going-out frocks too.

I'm drawn to dresses anyway. They tend to suit me much better than trousers.

I'm shopping for a new frock on Friday with my next door neighbour and I'm ridiculously excited about it!

Over 80. Can't count now because I've packed the ones that don't fit into a suitcase. I counted a couple of months ago, got to eighty and realised I was missing pockets of clothes storage around the house, got embarrassed and gave up.

I guess somewhere between 90-110.
I have almost nothing else, btw. I have only two tshirts, for example.

I knew one of the serious frockers would be along soon :D
Do you still need more? Or do you just buy because you see one you like?

Also, when I worked for Shelter, there was a time around 2003/4/5ish (failing memory) when I wouldn't let shops put out dresses unless they could guarantee a metre of fashionable ones, which was rare. People either didn't buy/wear many dresses then or they just never parted with them because a decent frock was like hen's teeth in charity shops around that time.

Only about 5-7 in the rotation at the moment, but maybe 10 more in the closet. Not nearly enough, in other words. At the moment, I look way better in dresses than I do in trousers/jeans, so am definitely looking to expand the collection. It's hard, as I am quite high-waisted. I would love to start buying stuff and getting it tailored to fit better. But I still need to learn what shapes work best on me.

Both. I have concertedly been buying more because I've not been this fat in the summer since I purged my wardrobe a few years ago, and I'm going on holiday soon.

Mostly I try not to buy them.
