How do you jam your bread?

How do you top your bread?

I was just on a strict diet for a few weeks (no carbs no booze) and had thought that the not drinking part would be hard but in fact it was toast and jam that I fantasised about every day.
Definitely butter first, spread right to the edges, on slightly cooled toast so the butter doesn’t melt completely.
Or if it’s toast to finish off after a cooked breakfast, tear off a piece of the toast, apply a little butter and marmalade/jam, take a bite, repeat.

On reflection, this is probably why I needed to go on a diet.

Where is the nutella option?
(on toast, with butter)

I am not sure I could feasibly use 'jam' as a verb either. I spread, dollop, spoon and (rarely) smear...but I definitely don't jam anything.

And finally (because I am out of sorts today), I never eat (make) jam. Only the finest, crystal clear jellies emerge from my pans (with all evidence of seed, skin and pulp consigned to the compost.
Probably best not look at the pictures of the composition of thatt stuff.

When Mrs SFM first saw me make a sandwich she told me that putting butter in my sandwiches was “common”. I the many years since, I have disabused her of that notion and she now agrees that her mother (who told her that nonsense in the first place) is a bit crackers.
