If you prefer to remain in the dark, I guess not.I don’t need lessons on that from somebody who thinks that jam is as good as it gets.
What's your preferred method of sugar intake then?
If you prefer to remain in the dark, I guess not.I don’t need lessons on that from somebody who thinks that jam is as good as it gets.
i don't think that (in fact i had to chuck out some mouldy marmalade last night as I use it so infrequently). i just think food should be enjoyed, including jam, so why be meagre with your jamming or buttering, unless you have health problems or at risk of developing themI don’t need lessons on that from somebody who thinks that jam is as good as it gets.
For a start, I don’t using up my daily sugar ration on mediocre mass-produced crap, thinking that means I know how to have funIf you prefer to remain in the dark, I guess not.

Quite. The way to control sugar intake is to limit proccessed foods, soft drinks, sweetened tea/coffee, etc, etc ...i don't think that (in fact i had to chuck out some mouldy marmalade last night as I use it so infrequently). i just think food should be enjoyed, including jam, so why be meagre with your jamming or buttering, unless you have health problems or at risk of developing them
Everybody is at risk of developing health problems. Why do you think you’re immune?i don't think that (in fact i had to chuck out some mouldy marmalade last night as I use it so infrequently). i just think food should be enjoyed, including jam, so why be meagre with your jamming or buttering, unless you have health problems or at risk of developing them
This is another area where you're going wrong. You shouldn't use mediocre mass produced crap. There's loads of very high quality stuff out there if you put a bit of effort in.For a start, I don’t using up my daily sugar ration on mediocre mass-produced crap, thinking that means I know how to have fun
Well exactly. I view jam largely in the same bracket.aye, dunno why people continue to drink fizzy pop as their drink of choice beyond childhood.
wrong. the right way to do it is so you can enjoy it, so no meagre smears. lots of jam occasionally or none at allEverybody is at risk of developing health problems. Why do you think you’re immune?
Remember that I’m not saying don’t eat jam. I’m saying that Spymaster’s “amazement” that somebody would only want a thin spread of it is due to a shortcoming on his part.
I do eat jam sometimes. It’s homemade by a neighbour. It’s better than the likes of Bonne Maman but it’s still not worth going crazy for. This is another area where you're going wrong. I don’t need a tonne of it to be able to taste it just fine. I’m not so inured to sugar that I can’t taste it without overloading on it.wrong. the right way to do it is so you can enjoy it, so no meagre smears. lots of jam occasionally or none at all
If you’re eating more than about 8 teaspoons of it a day then you are exactly one of those people at risk of developing health problems.'daily sugar ration' lol - it's not ww2, are you on a wind up?
No. But it seems the way you eat it is flawed.Remember that I’m not saying don’t eat jam.
of course, but that's not the caseIf you’re eating more than about 8 teaspoons of it a day then you are exactly one of those people at risk of developing health problems.
Don’t look now, but that’s a ration.of course, but that's not the case
I don't think Kabbes should be allowed jam.wrong. the right way to do it is so you can enjoy it, so no meagre smears. lots of jam occasionally or none at all
only if you explicitly measure what you're eating every day. i'm not that crazyDon’t look now, but that’s a ration.
No, it’s still a ration whether or not you exceed it. I’m not claiming that I explicitly measure what I’m reading against it, but the ration still exists and I still have a basic awareness of where I am against it.only if you explicitly measure what you're eating every day. i'm not that crazy
This would make no difference to my life.I don't think Kabbes should be allowed jam.

I bet it would. You're just pretending it wouldn't because you don't want me to ban you from eating it.This would make no difference to my life.
Consider yourself... quite strangeI bet it would. You're just pretending it wouldn't because you don't want me to ban you from eating it.
You're getting the wrong jam.Because for every 2 teaspoons of jam you use, you’re eating an entire teaspoon of refined sugar (actually a bit more than that).
Jam is okay and all but it’s not so good that it’s worth eating all that sugar.
Bon Maman's Intense range is good (apricot, strawberry or raspberry) made with a bit more fruit than sugar compared to their conserves.
Łowicz (in Polski shops) has 100% fruit jams that are considerably less sweet than usual. And not outrageously expensive either, considering.I do find most commercial jam far too sweet. I currenty favour only Lidl's sour cherry or Frank Copper's marmalade. I made some plum and rhubarb a couple of years ago using half the sugar. That was great.
Tell me of other sour or tart jams!
Oooh! I'll try to find some - thanks.Łowicz (in Polski shops) has 100% fruit jams that are considerably less sweet than usual. And not outrageously expensive either, considering.
Even their regular jams are lower in sugar than most.
