How close are we to war breaking out in Europe?

The one bit of Johnson's spiel that does seem well judged is the mention of costing young Russian lives. That's a direct reference to Russian conscripts. The deaths of conscripts have a different meaning to a leader than the deaths of professional soldiers, and very different consequences.

apparently - on wikipedia therefore not certain - conscripts not used for combat missions.

of course johnson is trying to make the most of this = perfect opportunity for him to put on his churchill hat and regurgitate winson-esque rhetoric so as to sound like hes all important and at the eye of the storm. As far as the Russians are concerned he's an irrelevance - I seriously doubt anything he says will be given any serious attention outside of the UK media. The US , Germany and France (de factor leaders of the EU) are the real drivers of western strategy.

Like what though? A lot of the assets will be in property which isn't particularly liquid

I'm not usually interested in economics and haven't ever really given a flying fuck about this sort of thing so excuse my ignorance but...

What happens if the likes of Roman and his friends decide to move their money into something else by way of offloading their property portfolios. Will that have an effect on the housing market's bubble?

Agree.

Russians will not tolerate young Russians coming home in body bags.

yeh as i've shown above the russians diminish the chances of conscripts coming home in body bags by putting them in ancillary roles to the contracted or volunteer soldiers. littlebabyjesus affects to have me on ignore, so he's an excuse for not reading the posts. but you don't.

Thankfully, I think this is true enough. A large part of Johnson's rhetoric looks to me to be aimed at the domestic audience - Look at me, I'm a statesman. But I'm not sure the thoughts of the British prime minister (and particularly this British prime minister) matter all that much to anyone outside Britain.

Pretty much this. I think if you don't travel or don't watch foreign news media you don't realize how largely irrelevant we are to world politics, and with a clown like Johnson even more so.

But particularly with this, because it's Putin, a hardline don't gaf nationalist, he'll be seeing Johnson as пыль - dust.

Ergo any discussion around this involving "Johnson said.." is a bit of a waste of time.

Usually whenever a large amount of anything is quickly dumped into any market, the value of whatever it is goes down. You'd expect that sort of move to reduce property prices but how much, how quickly, and for how long, would depend on how much there is out there, and I'm not sure anyone really knows.

Fair enough.

Sorry ..I am using the phone and was cooking at the time
Missed your post

Aladdin, now that you see this in context, do you now see that your previous interpretation of it was wrong?

I am very surprised at the alarmist nature of Johnson's comments. I would have expected cool heads and diplomacy at this stage.

If an invasion happens, I could then understand Johnson saying similar but right now I dont think it was useful or helpful to anyone. Especially, as others here have said, Putin doesnt care what Boris says.
I sincerely hope that there will be no invasion. The Ukrainian people are being placed in a dreadful position.

I also hope that Russia has some way of controlling Putin.

Well we've moved from warmongering to alarmist, so perhaps that's progress!
🤔

2 million Russians living in Ukraine. About 4 thousand women and children have left to go to refugee camps in Russia in the past week or so.
In the past 2 weeks 5000 US troops have assembled in Poland close to the Russian border. All while Russia was saying their operation inside their own border was a manoeuvre.
Lets hope the Ukrainian leader and Putin can sit down and talk. They undoubtedly understand each other better than Boris understands either of them.

And No. None of that implies I support anything but peace.
