How can I get interested in Association Soccerball?

Always hated it.
It's boring (apart from the goals).
Pubs with people watching it are horrible places where people seem to regress into gibbering knuckledragging apes.
There's a touch of Nuremberg about watching it that disturbs me.

BUT

the World Cup is coming up and I don't want to spend a month not being able to go out and having to watch it at home anyway, cos it would be unreasonable to say my flatmate can't watch it.
Am I doomed or is there some way I can train myself to appreciate it and have a more enjoyable month?

drink lots of beer !

Cross-reference the footie with a game that you already like. So if you like chess, just think of football as a positioning game from both sides to probe in for the kill.

Does that work? Didn't think so, when people hate football they really hate it!

One of the things that always pisses me off about a World Cup is the way in which loads of people who aren't even interested in football suddenly can't stop talking about the game. Naturally these people also have extremely vocal opinions about the game, opinions which they know are right because they just got them off the telly.

Fortunately as I shall be watching this one in Spain I shall be unable to understand what these people are saying.

Well where abouts in Spain are you watching it?!

Well if you were watching it in the touristy areas I think they'll probably be worse than the pubs in England!!!

Yep - I had to witness grunting Brits watching the soccer in Barcelona.
Coming all the way to such a beautiful city to eat KFC and watch football

Orang Utan, How about adopting a club? Usually I'd sugest your home town club, but I seem to recall that you're from Leeds, so I'm not going to recommend that :D . Maybe go and watch a small local team in your area with some mates.

However, you could just block it out and/or spend more time with other people who don't like football.

Donna Fuentes - I do know what you mean about people only liking football during the WC. It is annoying; 'Will Wayne Owen be fit in time?' and shouting 'That's a foul!!' in a whiny voice when it's blantantly not a foul at all. Often wearing a cheap t-shirt with 'England', or worse, 'Brazil' printed on it.

I should pick a London team then.
Milwall? That's probably the nearest stadium to me.

It's just like chess but without brains. I once met a bunch of pro footballers only one of them could speak without grunting.
That and there is less crowd chanting at chess matches. :D

Though it does make me wonder why people travel sometimes - is it just that it's sunnier elsewhere?
Well I went to Barcelona, watched a football match (maybe Liverpool) and had KFC a few times! I love watching football (so do Spanish people) and KFC is beautiful!!

But funnily enough that's not all I did!

Well, firstly it isn't, and secondly, what about all the paella and tapas? Surely that tastes better than KFC and surely that's part of the travel experience - trying the food?

Adopting a team is essential imo. I find watching a game from a neutral angle incredibly boring - I actually follow the game differently iykwim. S'why I can't ever get into serie a etc much.

I did have paella!!! For my TEA!!! You want me to fork out for paella every day for my dinner?!?! And I didn't have KFC every day! Sometime's I had a falafel wrap or a sandwich but when the KFC is practically next door to your hostel and you have a massive hangover (assuming you dont " " at Brits who dare to have a drink in a foreign country!!!) it's pretty hard to turn it down!

Anyway, have you found that island off Thailand with the cool beach yet?! :D :p

Oh yea, should probly say summat to do with the topic!

Er, support Sheff Utd next year in the Premiership! It's always fun supporting the underdogs!!

Yes! It's a holiday! You're supposed to splash out.

Anyway, football......

Nah - two mates support them and they fools.

QPR? I'd recommend a lower-division team cos you'll never get a ticket for the others. Brighton would give you an excuse for seaside excursion.
