Handy list of Fake News websites

But then, that list is probably a good place to go to get actual news that's being swept under the carpet. You'll have to sort the wheat from the chaff, but there'll be some good shit on some of them I'm sure.
Also...no lunatic outpost or conspiracy outpost on that list.
are you alright? You don't live under a chemtrail do you? Hope you've not been vaccinated or anything.

When you put RT I thought you ment ruptly, which use the same logo and spout a whole load of shit, you can add them too.

I was under the impression Ruptly was a sort of viral division of RT.
In fact I'm sure of it.

is it? i thought it was another dutchsince/begly type thing. Just more mud in the water. I'd never looked into it that far tbh. Anyway, you had it on your list, I must have missed it.

Russia Today is funded by Putin of course its propaganda

It's a state funded news channel . It doesnt come out of Putins pocket . If its on it on that basis then so should the BBC . Who are often fucking atrocious . PBS too . RTE in Ireland . France 24 , Al Jazeera . It's no different .

it's definitely more biased & sly than the examples you mention.
IMO anyway.

RT has great factual programming on certain topics like techniques of sapphire mining in the Urals.

Numerous Al Jazeera journalists have resigned in protest at the stations antics . Afshin Rattansi..who nowadays presents a first rate left orientated show on RT is a case in point . They were hit by a raft of resignations following their coverage of egypt and bahrain . Followed by another exodus over Syria and lebanon . It's openly called for genocide against Syrian Alawis . Hardly surprising as its owner is a major funder and arms supplier of al Qaeda linked jihadists who want to do just that . Don't even start me with RTE . France 24 is often little more than a mouthpiece for French foreign policy and the EU . And the BBC is biased beyond belief .
Like most westerners, left or right of the spectrum, you're just more hostile to any Russian slant than the others . It's conditioning .

There's some good sites on that list, a lot of fragglery too but, you know... the Cathedral and the Bazaar an all that. The propornot one was better because handily they broke it up into Left wing versus Right wing sites, so you don't have to pick through the more conspiraloony/alt-right/pixies and aliens stuff.

Was quite pleased to find some of my bookmarks on it really, consortiumnews, blackagendareport, sott... recently discovered this blog recommended by the list:charles hugh smith-Weblog and Essays. Not sure about it yet and it's a bit book-floggy (guys gotta make a living I suppose) but liked the article.

Glen Greenwald goes to town on Propornot . Beware these shady fuckers and their McCarthyite lists

A Clinton Fan Manufactured Fake News That MSNBC Personalities Spread to Discredit WikiLeaks Docs

It was that maniac Clinton who started this whole " fake news " epidemic hysteria . Yet another sinister plot by Putin and his cat to take over the world .

No, that is just one of many meanings being attached to the term. For example:

There is the relatively 'pure' meaning which refers to news that is easily demonstrated to be totally fake, the authors know it is fake and it and is spread for propaganda purposes.

There is the greyer area of distorted news, conspiracy theories, opinion posing as fact etc.

There is Trump & Co's very calculated attempts to misappropriate the term and use it to refer to the mainstream media when it reports facts he doesnt like.

And there is the pehnomenon which you describe, which I am not seeking to pretend is not part of the picture at all, but its very misleading to write the entire term off as simply being the mainstream not liking it when others put a different spin on things. For example the idea that people would rely less on 'quality news' was a concern for ages now and I remember reading papers last decade which listed this as a concern for states in the future. And the reasons for this concern are a mix of things - on the one hand something resembling what you are talking about where what was feared was a loss of information & propaganda mainstream virtual monopoly, with associated loss of control and influence. But also a legitimate concern based on the history of what shitty paths people can be lead down when they take rumours based on prejudice and things like 'yellow journalism' as fact.

It's a term coined by one of the most shameless , corrupt liars in US political history who was angry at some unfavourable media coverage of her antics . Which she sought to portray as a Russian plot against her . An hysterical, angry reaction to losing an election she thought was hers by right . It's a call for outright censorship and it stinks .

can''t argue with conditioning.

Fake news was a term coined to describe the actual proliferation of fake news on Facebook during last US election. Fake news outperformed real news there. We've all seen the BuzzFeed analysis but I'll repeat it anyway

Of the 20 top-performing false election stories identified in the analysis, all but three were overtly pro-Donald Trump or anti-Hillary Clinton. Two of the biggest false hits were a story claiming Clinton sold weapons to ISIS and a hoax claiming the pope endorsed Trump, which the site removed after publication of this article.

When people against Trump use the term, they mean a specific set of falsehoods such as Clinton selling arms to ISIS and Pizzagate. Trumpkins use it to mean anything the mainstream media says at any time at all.

Slight difference. I can take issue with something the Mail says, but I can also pick out the facts from the slant. They do actually use facts. Yeah they and other major outlets get fooled too but then they at least try to be right ...

This is, at most, weak evidence of reporting bias at RT.

And indeed the accusation is that this alleged bias solely pertains to stories which concern Russia's image . she doesn't appear to find fault with the rest of its output . That doesn't make it any more fake news than any other channel . It's the Russian angle that's the problem for so many . A bunch of upstarts .

Eta

When Al jazeera start doing exposes on the slave industry in Qatar and the like we can say this sort of bias at RT is terrible and keep a straight face .

I think this fits the description of biased and sly many times over . The BBC broadcast what appears to be a completely staged event aimed at getting support for war on Syria . They first claimed the Syrian air force dropped napalm on a school killing loads of kids etc . Which was odd because the supposed school in question appears to be a villa and Syrian schools were on their summer holidays at the time of the alleged attack . The supposed doctor..turned out later to be a shadowy activist..claimed first it was napalm . Bizarrely , when the report was re broadcast later her words magically transformed from "napalm" to " chemical weapons " . Digitally altered without a doubt . With her wearing some daft dust mask so you can't see her lips moving . The whole thing was staged. It's abundantly clear a load of people writhing about on the floor are acting . One of them even gets tired of rolling about, stands up and walks off . And then it's topped off by some supposedly random Syrian walking up to the camera and demanding the international community start bombing ...in perfect English .

This is fake news beyond any shadow of doubt .

Dr Rola - Wikispooks

The truly blatant bit is around the 6 and a half minute mark . It's totally outrageous . You can see not only have the words of this supposedly spontaneous scene Been changed, so has the supposedly spontaneous scene itself . The bloke in the hi viz jacket s sleeve has somehow been rolled down . Stuff in the background has moved . It's been completely staged, multiple takes of the same supposed scenes . Like it was on a studio set .

And a few more examples

BBC Quietly Owns Up to Blatant Propaganda Lies - Craig Murray

Have we so quickly forgotten the BBCs antics surrounding the Scottish referendum ? Angela Eagle and her infamous brick ?

Wow, but this is only a small list. There are many other sources of fake news out there. Even the big names sometimes manipulates and circulate fake news.

The list is an example of that "weaponized information" they have now. It's embarrassing really how we've just muddled-along with crappy old "propaganda" all this time.
