Hackney chitter-chatter &tc

I know someone who used to live in Belfast Road in a shared property, not that one though - not exactly an attractive building!

It's a funny old road with the mix of old terrace houses and commercial properties, I like the look of the house on the end with the turret that overlooks the railway :D

History note...before 1907 it was called Stamford Terrace and there was a small brewery there.

The houses on the south side are nice but it’s still pretty industrial really. I’m friends with some of the artists who use one of the warehouses as studio space.

I was just outside Hackney at 8am this morning , on Walthamstow Marshes , that bit where the two train lines meet , when I accidentalled a rave , under the train lines were about 200 folk , pretty refreshed , still trying to dance after what seemed to have been an all-nighter 😅

The station looks pretty similar - but for some reason we can no longer weigh ourselves whilst waiting for the train - (is it a weighing machine on the platform?) those flats behind the station look just the same. Shops are different though - the one on the corner of Northwold Road (Star market) was recently done up and they revealed an old shop front , showing it was a book shop (looks 50s, I'll see if I can find a photo. )

I go past here two or three times a week, but I don't think I've ever been inside the station.

I'll have to check out the photos on a proper screen when I get home.

Invalid Asylum, Stokey.
I'm guessing this is where that Thai restaurant on the high st is now? Next to the eastern entrance of the cemetary?

Yes it is, the front of the building is only a facade now....

The Invalid Asylum for the Recovery of Respectable Women’, 187 Stoke Newington High St. Now YumYum restaurant. The original building was built in 1714. After years standing derelict, it was rebuilt in 1983 with only the original facade surviving.

Where were the disrespectable women supposed to go to recover?
