Guardian: 'Isis' flag flown in East London

A nun has taken down a black flag similar to those flown by jihadist fighters in Iraq and Syria after it was spotted flying at the gates of an east London housing estate.

[...]

"The flag was removed following concerns that it could cause community tension." Sister Christine is believed to have gone on a day-trip to Clacton-on-Sea today after taking the flag down overnight. A source said she may have travelled to the seaside with the youths who had erected the flag.

I do hope this is true. :)

LOL.

I think the "flag" is copied from a souvenier poster - the sort you'll find in any restaurant.

I banged "there is no god but" "add to basket" into Google and got, for example http://www.zazzle.co.uk/classic_shahada_calligraphy_posters-228095207312414840

Possibly some fuckwits attempting to prove the estates a "muslim area"
Like that ginger haired twat and his muslim patrol:eek:

I think the playing down and ridiculing of this issue on this thread is a form of Elitism.

Is it frig - we know these nutters are out there, we know they are trying to hide in between anger at Israeli state action, and we know this is going to stoke up local trouble - that, after all is the point, to make people choose sides. We (or at least i) find the guardians OMG ISIS ARE HERE - run for the hills!!!!!! hyperbole laughable and worth laughing at revealing of the fears of a certain type of person - not the local non-muslim community but people in the guardians occupational orbit - a pretty tightly restricted social composition. Look at the piece today that worries about how it might effect bankers who want to buy a property in the area. It's the guardian and its reaction that's being ridiculed, not the issue of fundie twats using gaza as cover.

How is it elitist?

To me it is not about guardian reporting but about the fact that this flag was placed and where it was placed. Playing it down is being tooo politically correct IMO, and therefore elitist. After the intimidatory patrols, the murder of a soldier in london, various bomb plots and seeing what is going on in the world, this does not sit easily with the majority of people. It is not something that flits by and is forgotten. making fun of the woman who took it down is crass.

The elitism part comes in when you are aloof and dsimissive when the majority are frothing at the mouth with outrage.

Its a few fundie twats being twats.
And or teens trying to look hard.
Isis are not opening a 2nd front in london .
Yes there may be a tiny minority of nutters planning acts of terrorism. but most people after they have had a chance to reflect realise its a tiny tiny minority of muslims.

If this had been a nazi flag one year after a racist murder you wouldn't be saying;
It's a few nazi twats being twats And or teens trying to look hard.
The third Reich are not opening a 2nd front in london

I think this flag business needs to be taken more seriously. It reads to me the same as like someone on facebook in the US saying, "I'm gonna go to school and shoot everyone", just before they actually go to school and shoot everyone.

Some quote about maybe she'll convert which i really don't get. The poor woman deserves more respect.

Of course she deserves respect. She's practically a hero as far as I am concerned, especially if it is true that she is engaging constructively with the lads that put this flag up. The joke quiquaquo made was about clacton, not Sister Christine.
