Greek elections

That's a view and its shared by many 'anti politics' types. Paul Mason says exactly what you do this morning that the key stuff is outside parliament. Which sounds cool but giving a rabid chauvinist like Kammenos a veto over all sorts of legislation matters. Framing the job of the government as 'national salvation' matters.

Yes, he did...and rather teasingly suggested that Syriza were embarking on other 'coalitions' for other 'issues'. Is Mason talking out of his southern mouth, or is there something to this?

I've seen similar explanations of the coalition on twitter - suggestions that ANEL will get Ministry of Shipping in return for backing Syriza (& voting against austerity), & Syriza will pull votes (and perhaps even a couple of crucial seats) from PASOK & To Potami for a working majority on social issues.

About Kammenos:

He is speaking (in French but with English translated commentary. This was in October of last year. You don't need to hear the whole 20 min speech to get the drift of what he is about.

Incidentally the Schiller Institute is not quite kosher.

It's almost like Dave sees this from the bankers' POV...

David Cameron’s spokeswoman has just told reporters in Westminster that he respects the Greek people’s decision, but the country must deal with its debts:

Reuters: GREECE MUST TACKLE ITS DEFICIT, MEET ITS INTERNATIONAL COMMITMENTS - UK PM CAMERON’S SPOKESWOMAN

It's a pity that Syriza were forced into a collaboration with the Greek equivalent of UKIP in order to form a government.
Is this the party that has a narrative about Orthodox solidarity with Russia (like Serbia) and want to move Greece towards Putin's orbit?

hmm, I see probably finance minister Yanis Varoufakis wrote his main work on how to get out of the Euro crisis together with ex-Labour MP Stuart Holland. Not that radical then

Red ed weighs in with a blistering endorsment speech and a promise of undying solidarity

“Just like our elections are a matter for the people of this country, so who the Greek people elect is a decision for them.

“It is the responsibility of the British government to work with the elected government of Greece for the good of Britain and Europe and not to play politics.

“And it is up to each country to choose its own path on how to deal with the economic and social challenges they face.

“We have set out our path for Britain: to make sure our country is fairer and more prosperous and balance the books

There's loads fighting to be Finance minister - Milios, Varoufakis, Lapavitsas, Dragasakis, Stathakis - all of the right bloc - apart from who is YF really outside that political bloc even further to 'the right' - and Lapavitsas (now in Left Platform) who is a real radical.

I think he's misunderstood his job description. I think we're about the see a massive debt write-off and European holidays get really cheap for a while..... book now.

Greek holidays are already really cheap - they're the only thing that stopped the economy completely collapsing

I broadly share the view of Lapavitsas - they need to leave the Eurozone, and nationalise the banks.

Leaving the euro does nothing for them unless the debt is restructured or written off. They live on debt they need someway to carry on borrowing.
