give up anti-fascism?

Too niche and their target appeal were all pretty young (ish) back in the 80's. These days they seem to be harking back to an age gone by and that will never reappear. They also seem to tag onto other groups and protests and finaly they have no credibility. Just my opinion....
and you are entitled to your opinion mate, no problem, just tried to understand your logic.

I know you have tried, but it doesn't really answer the question why?
I accept that's how things may appear to you, and that those things suggest you "I don't know, I don't think they ever set out to be a credible political force.... " BUT my question was about their motivation. Why bother to exist as a political organisation if they didn't "ever set out to be a credible political force.... "?
Can you name any other party in history who hasn't "ever set out to be a credible political force.... "?

Well, if you've nothing to say about the article/The BNP/anti anti-fascism/working class alienation/ class struggle etc and you'd rather make some weirdo point about your weirdo sect then fair enough.

Talk to your conspiracy theorist anarchist comrades who introduced the topic, or shut the fuck up!:facepalm:

I don't know, I don't think they ever set out to be a credible political force....

I think every "revolutionary" organisation starts out with those intentions, but few stay the course, whether that's because the game for some of them becomes (to borrow from The Clash) "turning rebellion into money", or because of more "The Man Who Was Thursday"-esque concerns.

I've been around racist and anti racist message boards for a few years, letterly I have suggested the following,

1. The BNP should be tackled on their policies and poor performance in the councils where they have councillors,
2. That empathy is shown regarding the issues that encourage people to turn towards the far right, instead of calling them racists and ignorant.
3. Tackle far left extremism and Islamic fundamentalism.
4. Counter the lies perpetuated by the far right with facts.

This isn't recieved too well...

Actualy
1. Agree
4. Agree
And these are the reasons I don't bother debating the sect members and conspiraloons on here.

2 is complicated.
3 think the Daily Mail etc is doing a fine job of tackling those windmills.;)

To what? To bolster the same failed agenda as outlined in the OP? Why would i do that? The whoel approach of the thread is poltically fucked, it's asking people to contribute to helping the same failed approach. Bin the thread, bin this approach.

This isn't true is it Butchers?

OK, I'll concede that far left probably isn't appropriate, but what is termed and attacked as "PC gorn mad", which is very much viewed as leftism, has a significant relevance and impact to many people. Even the little things start to stack up and when they're pointed out it's branded as racist.

For example;

Back in 2006 a colleague of mine was given a fixed penalty parking ticket in Oldham when he parked his car, albiet on double yellows to nip into a newsagent to get some cigarettes.

When he came out he was pissed off and made the usual protestations about being there for a few minutes only. Needless to say the offense stuck and he paid his fine, he grumped about it all day.

Two weeks later we both popped out for lunch, he was driving and looking for a parking space very close to the newsagents where he'd recieved his ticket. There were cars everywhere, on the pavement, on yellow lines and even double parked. Then he spotted the traffic warden who'd issued his ticket just walking past all these cars.

He wound down his window and yelled at the warden to ticket all the cars that were illegally parked, when he was ignored he saw red and got out of the car and walked over the Warden and asked, not politely admittedly, why he wasn't issuing tickets and the reply was, and I quote "It's prayer time and I've been told not create any problems because this is a Muslim area"

When he got back in he car he was purple with rage and his anger was with the warden, the council, the left and PC madness and sadly Muslims. This sentiment was taken back to the office where he was sympathised with, everyone seemed to have a story to tell, and these weren't white working class people these were articalute and educated middle class people. The only person who tried to put some balance to the situation was myself.

The problem is that there is a significant silent minority of people who, because of the small issues they've experienced regarding instances such as the one I've described, believe the outright lies and propoganda that the BNP and the media are prone to spout.

If you talk to BNP sympathisers, for want of a better expression, and tell them about the BNP immigration policy and how they'd remove British Citizenship for non whites etc, they are appalled and use the classic, I have a black/muslim/Indian (delete as required) friend. They do not believe their views are racist and they do not believe that they themselves are, but they do feel afriad to talk about racial issues for fear of being branded as such and are afraid of sanctions being taken against them.

Is it any wonder then that when the new and improved men in suits from the BNP show up with an entourage of screaming UAF nut jobs screaming and attacking them that they aren't discouraged from supprting them even if it isn;t overtly?

What's this got to do with the "far left"?

I've been trying to get the message over that 'anti' or negative messages don't work for a ruddy long time and just get shouted down.

A negative campaign always fails and always will. Until those who are opposed to the ultra right loonies start getting a positive message over, the BNP and they daft pals are laughing all over their evil little faces.

What IS actually 'evil' about the BNP? :hmm:

They offer solutions (based on some partial and imagined british identity) which are at 'best' ineffective (beyond their being divisive) and at worst actually distructive (and divisive). So unless you like your politics to be either useless and/or damaging and your of an 'ethnicity first' frame of mind, you'd be better off looking elsewhere for answers.

Nice answer. :)

Though it should perhaps be added that a lot of their actual members actually are evil fucks and have a very long and nasty criminal history to prove it. Their public face and their real face are somewhat at odds. And that's saying something considering their public face is Nick fucking Griffin
