Football.
Heroic draw. 1-1
That's so WelshI think the result is more about France's shortcomings than England's brilliance.
all hinges on the Swedish games IMO.
Give it a rest, eh? We know we're shit. 1-1 against the best team in the group is a good result!I think the result is more about France's shortcomings than England's brilliance.
one yellow card all season, pay attention.I'm glad Rooney wasn't on. If he'd been on and been on the shitty end of one of those blind refereeing decisions, there would have been an almighty kick off and he'd have been sent off.
Not a bad first go. Better than I was expecting, any road.
The midfield is the main problem. They don't put any pressure on the ball aside from just in front of the penalty area, and it's this, rather than just the pass selection that means they cede possession fairly easily. If you're always winning it back on your 18-yard line, with 10 men behind the ball, there's not a lot you can do with it. When England actually got up the pitch they found there was a pretty gaping hole between France's midfield and defence.England defended well, but they held their shape almost to a fault. Nobody in midfield looked remotely keen to press forward and create anything, Oxlade-Chamberlain seemed so afraid of moving into space I'd swear he was agorophobic. This would be fine if the opposition were beating on the door, but France were nothing special either and they could easily have been beaten tonight.
Johnson looked good, but he was obliged to do too much attacking to make up for the deeply average Milner and he was caught out of position once or twice. Lescott and Terry did well as well but I'd still be tempted to bring in Jagielka for Terry next time. Gerrard looked a shadow of his former self. Welbeck had his moments but he was mostly cut adrift from the rest of the team. Joe Hart was England's best player by some distance I reckon.
But yeah, could've been worse.
