A North Wales police officer has been sacked after crashing an unmarked police car while she was off duty, then trying to cover up the incident.
Anja MacLeod was found guilty of gross misconduct.
The incident happened when she was taking her dog to the vet. It's disappointing that she's been allowed to keep a dog, since in 2008 she was convicted of animal cruelty - Anja Mason, as she was then known, and her partner Craig MacLeod were given community orders for the mistreatment of
their two pet dogs.
A neighbour had filmed incidents of the cruelty and the footage was reviewed by a veterinary expert for the RSPCA.
In fact Anja MacLeod (then Mason) and Craig MacLeod were allowed to keep their jobs, and instead each had
10 days' pay deducted.
They were banned from keeping or looking after any animal for five years and ordered pay £1,267 each towards the RSPCA costs.
In this more recent incident Anja MacLeod asked for an hour off duty to go to the vet, but didn't say she was taking a police vehicle. At the scene of the crash she told the sergeant she "had been in the area looking for a disqualified driver." He hadn't been informed that the dog was in the back of the car.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that this might just be the same Craig MacLeod involved in the 2008 dog cruelty case.
Anja MacLeod is now barred from from working in policing.
