more newbie questions: how many transfers can you do a season and when?

As many as you want when you want. You have one free one a week. Each one after that takes 4 points off you points total for next week. If you don't do any in one gameweek you then get two free ones for the next week. But no more than that - i.e you don't get three free ones if you don't make any transfers the following week. You have one wildcard you can use at any time which means you can make as many transfers cost free as you like in that gameweek. And there's another one that can only be played in (iirc) a three week period in January.

You get a free one every game week. You can do more for a 4 point hit per transfer. You also get a couple of wild cards when you can change your whole team with no hits. You have one now and get another later in the season.

I don't think anyone should have any Man U defence. They have good fixtures but they're not gonna keep any clean sheets cos they're still a poor team. I've seen lots of teams with DDG in goal. Big waste of funds IMO.

yeah I think they looked a bit ragtag in that opening match - doesnt bode well.
Mata was 9mill too, money that can be better spent for sure

I have De Gea...and Jones..and Mata 
Only keeping De Gea for this run of fixture - Jones is going to pick up a lot of bonus (and assists - one already) with the new bonus for dibbling/runs. (What may appear to be runs/dribbles may just be losing the ball and looking to get it back - but the bonus system won't differentiate). And it's far far too soon to get rid of Mata.

I would've kept Mata but I had Young and 0.5 in the bank so had to sell quick before Siggy price went up.

My Chelsea players did v badly considering all three played. Probably more to do with Kaboul coming on as sub with 7 points.

Had the wrong two defenders alongside Ivanovic - Baines and Debuchy got me a combined total of 1 point, while sitting on the bench Fonte and Vlaar collected 9 points and 6 points respectively

Lest I forget the season two years ago when I had Begovic and Jaask as my home-fixture rotating keepers and the one playing away managed to get a clean sheet while the home keeper I played didn't for about 9 weeks in a row.
I'm gutted...876 in the overall league at the moment..it doesn't get any better than that so my entire season will be watching my team plummet down the ranks.

My wife is playing for first time this season and she's beating me. This despite her forgetting to pick her team in GW1, so leaving Rooney on bench and leaving capt armband on some no-hoper.
