Evo Morales kicks arse

This kind of proves that literally any other leader would be 20 points ahead against this useless government imo

What if they decide to ignore the vote? They did, after all stage a coup.

Well, so far so good.

Mesa conceded defeat on Monday lunchtime, telling supporters that a quick count showed a “very convincing and very clear” result. “There is a large gap between the first-placed candidate and us … and, as believers in democracy, it now falls to us … to recognise that there is a winner in this election,” Mesa said

For Áñez’s outgoing conservative interim government, which took power after Morales’s banishment, it was a stinging rebuke. “It tells us that the rightwing in Bolivia has no broad political support – not even close,” Shultz said. “The rightwing was given a chance to govern and proved that it is only interested in its own power and in itself and has contempt for the indigenous and poor of the country. They demonstrated that by pretending they had legitimacy that they didn’t, by overseeing real human rights abuses and impunity, and by being incompetent and corrupt in their governance. And people weren’t going to have it.”

One exit poll suggested Arce had achieved a thumping victory, winning a majority in five of Bolivia’s nine departments. The poll said Arce secured more than 65% of the vote in La Paz, 63% in Cochabamba, 62% in Oruro and 51% in Potosí.

However. I assume this is just the Guardian being crap and getting names mixed up.

It may be several days before the official result is confirmed. On Monday afternoon electoral authorities said that with nearly 20% of votes counted, 36% had gone to Arce and nearly 43% to Mesa.

You what?

Morales got 47% in the 2019 couped election...so MAS vote has gone up a few percentage points since. Civic Community down 6%. Suggests how this whole thing has played with voters.

Marginalised UK press coverage of this remains a disgrace.

One thought though, the right have successfully got Morales out of the hotseat - which inadvertently may not be such a bad thing. Political leaders dont necessarily need changing regularly for the sake of it, but 13 years is probably plenty long enough however good you may be. If your political movement rests on the character of one person its roots arent strong enough.

Here's a look at what's going on now - president trying to keep Morales at arms length Evo Morales completes triumphant Bolivia return. Now what?

He's caused so much trouble with his obsession with running again. Especially given it's now clear that MAS can get elected with another leader (and with a greater percentage of the vote). If this thread weren't so old I'd request it be retitled to remove the last two words.

Fortunately, being the British, they backed a losing horse and fucked it all up.

Impressive iron fist flex on display from Comrade President Arce - we love to see it!

Bolivia’s government has arrested a former Treasury Ministry official as part of an investigation into a loan from the International Monetary Fund that was renounced by new President Luís Arce.

Good. IMF loans are complete poison, it staggers me that anyone would be willing to commit their country into the kind of debt that forces the privatisation of shit for the benefit of ruthless and amoral international corporations.

"Either they beat us or we beat them. That is the ideological, political and party struggle. We can't back down, we will never back down"

I feel the full force of the people's iron fist from Comrade Morales here! ✊✊✊🇧🇴

Great boss man Jeremy Corbyn writing in Jacobin. Just think, he could have a been First Secretary of the British Party of Labour and President of the Socialist People's Republic of Britain if the public weren't such dipshit ignoramuses. #dissolvethepeople
