Eurovision 2023 - Liverpool

Don't know who most of them are, but Shaznay knows her stuff. All Saints had some massive worldwide hits and she wrote some of them, but was also on the performing side as a pop singer so can judge what it's like to perform under the conditions Eurovision is conducted in pretty well.

If the others are similar then it seems fair enough.
Fair enough. I didn't recognise any of the names.

I'm not one for conspiracies (no, really) but I find the hosting it in Sweden next year on the 50th anniversary of ABBA winning a little too persuasive. Can imagine all the judges were made aware of the 'story' if nothing else. But it was certainly one of the better songs and performances.

I started a rewatch this morning (with subtitles this time) and Mel did say early on who the jury were. I'll pay more attention next time.

I loved the Edgar Allen Poe tune. I am that annoying cunt who is on mute on everyone's Whatsapp because I send round shit that I think is interesting or whatever. I never read anyone's interesting stuff that they send me either. Anyway, I sent that one to everyone because it is such a banger.
This one's issue is that the people who would vote for it in the public vote are likely to overlap with the people who would vote for the Finnish act. It was a good tune and the staging was really good too I thought.

The Belgian one is still my eaearworm
I liked that one until my sister pointed out it sounded a bit like Take That. Think she's got a point. Relight My Fire, I think?

He seemed like a nice bloke, the big hat guy, anyhow. I would've liked it if he'd won.

That Finnish act though, even accounting for Finnish ways. It was just all kinds of wrong. I see the bowl cut is on it's way back, completely free from irony, like it's a proper look. Honestly can't wait to see all the lads round here sporting a bowlie.

"Did his Mum do his hair?" was heard round ours.

Yes, had some similarities with Relight My Fire for sure

Never been one for conspiracy theories, but a friend from work who went to the semi finals and said Finland was overwhelmingly popular, said today the word around the campfire is that there was a fix to make Sweden the winner, as next year is the 40th anniversary of ABBA’s win, and the plan is to have them perform live as a tribute.

I think it’s utter bollocks but made me smile all the same.

Nah, I mean Sweden was still second in the public vote. If they were actually unpopular, Finland could hsve pulled it off with their total. "Catchy" has never been popular with thr juries.

Finland was a lot of fun but it was a long way from being objectively the best song.

I don't thing Sweden was the best song either but hey ho. I also don't think it was a fix.

There's always going to be accusations like this. There always was! It's impossible to conclusively measure in any meaningful way which song is the best.

It's actually 50 years.......

Even if it didn’t win, the cultural impact of the success of Käärijä‘a song Cha Cha Cha has been far reaching in Finland:

keep watching, it just gets worse…

😳

Wow. Another sister act sequel in the worst timeline.
