European Super League (again)

Not arrived yet - here's where to watch. Can't decide which team though. Man City's a nice blue.

It's Argentina blue, which is always good.

MEN liveblog here: United fans gather outside Old Trafford for protest - latest updates

I've seen someone pointing out that a really really useful bit of outreach for Kill the Bill folk to do would be to talk to football fans, such as the ones currently at Old Trafford, about how the new policing bill could criminalise a lot of the fan resistance that sank the ESL. Sounds like a good idea, idk if anyone will be doing it though.

Strangely enough I had exactly the same thought when I saw the OT picture on this thread earlier. Wasn't thinking about it explicitly re Kill the Bill, more about the left more generally. Not some awful swp type attempted highjack, just getting involved. But yeah, Kill the Bill would be an even better coming together.

german clubs may be (at least) 51% controlled by members - but both real & barca are officially member-owned, non-profit sport associations.

seems to be some differences, though; real has a limited number of socios (about 90000- 100000 atm) some kind of waiting list and you need to be recommended by two socios to become one. costs about €150 /yr. seems you must have been a socio for 20 years if you want to run for president. (used to be 10, but the club/pérez changed that in 2012. pėrez has been a socio since -61) you also need to be filthy rich. pérez has stood uncontested for the last three elections. (since 2013)

barca has a unlimited number of socis (144000 atm), €185/yr. but you need to be a (paying) hangaround for three years unless you're related to a soci. any soci who gathers the necessary support of >2000 other can stand for president. if youre not filthy rich yourself, you're gonna need friends who are.

bayern m has an unlimited membership (about 300000), open for everyone (individuals, not animals or organisations) costs €60/yr (50 if you skip the magazine). the member-owned non-profit fc bayern münchen e.v. controls 75% of the limited company fc bayern m ag - which runs the professional football team.

Oopsie

Someone here was hoping that one or two clubs would refuse to admit defeat and keep dragging the corpse of this thing through the streets for another week or two for maximum comedy value. Looks like they've got their wish.

I am out of loop, but I had chance to skim-read the entire thread and didn't find it comfortable reading—I have to tell you. I feel this has echoes of the 2008 mortgage crisis about it; big business can't put its house in order, wants to repackage the cost onto someone else.

Now my question is this: If the ESL project had had a sweet-heart deal, pre-signed with Murdoch—Skysports, The Sun et al; and the Murdoch press would have been vocally in favour, would this have tanked?

I am not convinced it would have. And I worry this ESL thing will come back again.
