European Super League (again)

Ole needs to grow a pair
Aye. Read earlier he first of all refused to come out and speak to the protestors and when he finally did he came out with 'joel loves the club'. At one level I feel for him, he's got the one single job in the whole world he wants. But he's had a couple of days to come up with something better than that. He could come out with something that put him on the right side of this. The one thing the glazers are not going to do at the moment is sack him.

Some gems here from last nights appearance on El Luarguero the Real Madrid President Florentino Perez:

"I'm a bit sad and disappointed. We've been working on this for three years, on what to do to fight the financial situation. In theory it's easy to understand. The league is untouchable. Where you can get more money is the midweek games. The current format is obsolete."

"I've never seen a greater aggression from the president of UEFA and the leagues. As if it was orchestrated. It surprised us all, an aggression that I've never seen in my life, in 20 years in football. Threats... As if we'd killed someone, killed football."

"There was someone in the English group who didn't have a lot of interest... Who was never convinced. I won't say who."

"(The English clubs) left because of the atmosphere... UEFA put on a show. It was like we'd let off an atomic bomb. Perhaps we haven't presented it well and explained it well but they haven't given us an opportunity either. Because they don't want to."

“It cannot be that in England, the six lose money, and 14 make money. In Spain the top three lose money, and the others make money. It cannot continue - at the moment the rich are those who are losing money.”

“Chelsea fans? They were 40 people outside Stamford Bridge... and if you want, I will tell you who took them there”.

"The project is on standby. If half leave, tired of what they've heard on 24 hours... Juventus haven't left. Milan neither. We're all together, Barcelona, reflecting on this..."

That's proper Trumpian.

Deluded cunt doesn't realise that's becuase the 'top' clubs buy success with money they don't have, usually highly leveraged! How about everyone - applied worldwide by FIFA et al - is required to live within their means? More competitive leagues, and no club goes bust. Players don't get such astronomical sums, but, so what? There still gonna want to play to the best of their ability.

The problem with club owners is that they want it all. If a club is passionately and widely supported they think they can buy that. Some think themselves very smart and astute by trying to milk that passionate support. But unless the club is well run, it will tend to blow up in their faces. The precious 'asset' can gain or lose value over relatively short spaces of time. If they don't respect the fact that to generations of supporters these clubs are cherished and hallowed parts of their communities then they will make blunders. And eventually the sport more widely will suffer. If they don't respect the fans or manage the club responsibly then they become nothing but parasites. If they can't be made to see that these clubs aren't just business assets, that they may own them legally/financially but that they really belong to the supporters and always have done then the sport will collapse. Fans will protest, boycott, apply pressure. You can't own a fan base.

I just love the way these hyper-rich fuckers have fucked up so badly. Nearly all of them were born with a diamond encrusted platinum spoon placed in their mouths by a Norlands nanny (Abromovich excepted) and part of being born in to such obscene wealth is that you must truly believe that you are a special human being, gifted by god or whatever. Any other mindset would send them round the twist. So when they spend ages coming up with a new money making scheme and it blows up so spectacularly in their faces there's a little bit of the real world creeping in to their weird lives, people stood up to them and didn't just say no, they shouted, "Fuck off ya radges!"

To be fair, when they came across the leveraged buyout thing, even they must have been taken aback. 'So, what we, ha ha, don't pay for it and, erm... then, splutter... it gives us a billion quid back'? And we get a directors box if we ever want to go and watch soccerball over there? Nah, come on!'

Random thought: wonder if there'll be a significant demo at Leeds v Man U on Sunday? An old rivalry for one thing along with Bielsa's and Bamford's comments the other day. At one level I don't want to see people banging on the coach window when Rashford et al arrive in town. But then where do you focus your protest against the global scumbags making their money off the club.

No need to cut any salary. They would just need to ensure that the ratio was maintained and simply increase the revenue available to the lower clubs to maintain it!
This is a brilliant idea. If top 6 were pegged to 50x div 2, 40x div1 and 25x championship average wages they’d have to come up with a fairer distribution of money.
There has never been a better time: the elite Spanish clubs are in over £1 Billion of debt. Italian clubs are dying trying to compete and the German clubs would presumably welcome other clubs adopting their model? All that's missing is the will...
you missed my point totally.

Arsenal Fan TV, who probably played a good part in getting Wenger out seem to be firmly backing a #KroenkeOut campaign - demo tomorrow supposedly.

" The dozen teams that agreed to play in the competition signed binding contracts to join the competition, according to several people familiar with the terms of the deal. The remaining Super League clubs have the option to sue those who are quitting in an attempt to enforce the deal, and it remains unclear what liabilities the clubs face for choosing to withdraw. "
