England vs Panama (Group G) - 13:00 - 24/06/2018

I almost feel a little sorry for Kane; scoring a hattrick at a World Cup should be the stuff of dreams, but the way it came about he didn't really get to enjoy it as he should.

I mean, he'll obviously be happy, but he didn't get that moment of sheer excitement and joy.

As a foreign observer, this WC and the build-up to it has so far had so much more positive vibes for England than any other in the 24 years I've lived here. The low expectations and lack of baggage/pressure on the players' shoulders have really been god-sent for the squad.

Have Shearer, Ferdinand and Lampard all played with Southgate?

Shearer played in '96, but did the latter two's careers overlap with Southgate? '98 or 2000?

That, and Southgate seems to be the most popular manager I can remember.

Always read the Chinese commetns after a match; most have England down as the China of europe, i.e. the team that's going to disappoint, so laughed at one comment that said this is a weird world cup where belgium and england are the only sides who aren't letting you down.

The lack of egos from the players and the manager is refreshing, every single player singing the national anthem with gusto too, you know Southgate has told them to, be fucking proud to wear those lions and they all seem to be. Long may it continue!
