It's been grim on the election thread for some time now.

Who will win the 2024 US election?

So can the orange fucker pardon himself and evade jail. I don't understand federal and state law? IIRC he can pardon himself in federal cases, but not state cases, but I seem to remember reading somewhere he could then ask the supreme court to overturn any bad results in state courts anyway. 🤷‍♂️

Wonder whether the US interference in European elections will step up a gear following this. Tech oligarchs are going to be emboldened, and EU regulation like data protection and anti-trust stuff will definitely be in their sights.

Other global stuff to watch will be the rise of BRICS and whether the US sits back and lets this happen, Trump was quite hawkish on China, not sure where some of his backers stand - some were against aid to Ukraine because they perceived China as more of a threat and wanted to keep a sufficient supply of weaponry to keep that ‘theatre’ in readiness.

Oh, and the environment’s definitely going to shit. There’s a reason a lot of Saudi money went in to this (Twitter, Kushner etc.)

But four years is enough time to do a lot of damage, gerrymander the fuck out of the electoral system, stuff the courts, close down environmental agencies etc. Unfortunately the far-right of the Republican Party have their ducks in a row this time, last time round they were as surprised as anyone else that he won and weren’t really prepared to hit the ground.
