Does class still matter?

I've checked and I've never posted on this thread before so I'm holding everybody accountable for every last word. Especially that Kameron character who said class didn't matter and was some sort of self defined phenomenon which internally held people back before ending with saying he is 'solidly middle class' or something, no doubt a libdem MEP by now
He was, believe it or not, a hero of certain types on this board many years ago. I always thought he became that diamond knobber.

compare Charles who is seen as a weird guy and not popular, but he is known for his weird marriage, his charity work, and his kids who are quite popular

Andrew has the same background and he is just seen as a wrongun, even before the recent thing,

And the background to both of this, their prior public profile, is their character.

It's right, in that yours will tell soon enough though.

It interests me that class and money are not closely tied.

If you are an aristocrat but broke you remain an aristocrat.
If you are a rich middle class person you remain middle class.
And if you are a super rich working class person you often remain working class.

But money does buy privilege.

So why are you equating that to socioeconomic status?
All I am saying is that I notice money, and I notice sociocultural background, and I notice despite money one cannot so easily change sociocultural background. Sociocultural background seems hard wired in.

Working class voices with aren't lots of money aren't well liked by a subculture of the ruling class because of what it says about their cherished genetic specialness. Don't mistake this for a situation where a rich fellow with a regional accent would be denied support against their workers however - the rich understand the importance of class solidarity.

I think it sounds pathetic when politicians and social climbers wallow in their lower working class background and the 'Made Its' who say, 'You can do anything if you try,' rather than 'I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.'

Try thinking about what you post; without a time machine, it is impossible for anyone to change their sociocultural background.
