Daniel Corbett: BBC weatherman

editor

hiraethified
I'd never noticed his name but as soon as I read your post I knew exactly who you were talking about.

His enthusiastic and eccentric weather forecasts are a joy!

More Daniel Corbett!

Here's the fella in action.

He's a dude.

Here's his biography http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/bbcweather/forecasters/dancorbett.shtml

Dan began his television career in 1990 at WCFT-TV in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He soon moved on to tornado alley and KWTX-TV in Waco, Texas, where his English accent was a huge hit. At KWTX Dan not only presented the weather but also operated and interpreted the station's own Doppler radar. It was while he was there in 1997 that one of the U.S.’s largest tornadoes, an F5, hit close to Waco.

Personally, I like Elizabeth Saary, but you can't fault Dan for his animated and passionate delivery.

I remember when he first started, I thought he was bodypopping, and it was all a bit much, but I have grown to love him.

The world needs Daniel Corbett.

I don't think I've ever seen him, I will make a special effort.

This guy however is so unbelieveably irrititating I'd like to kill him in the face.

Oh, he's brilliant. You can tell that he absolutely loves every single thing about the weather and he adds these mad little personal comments as he hurtles through the forecast.

The man's a star.

I saw him (on TV) the other day and was surprised how small he was. He made the map of britain at a funny angle look massive. There was something odd about him!

He is indeed bonkers. But well entertaining to watch him doing the weather.

So he now does regular news too? That's gotta be interesting, when was this? I'll tune in :)

Like all the best weather people - especially Ian McGaskill - he's mad as a box of frogs and hugely enjoyable. I used to fin him a bit scary and sinister but he's more fun now. Deranged but fun :)

From that wiki link:

Other trademarks include his reference to temperatures as "the numbers", and creative similes in reference to the weather, such as: "it's like I've gone mad with my crayon here" or "the weather front wriggles around like a snake in the grass". He often refers to rain on the radar as "blobs" or "little chappy/chappies".

He's also known for giving specific weather-related advice ("so if you're out shopping ...", "nice day to take the doggy out to the park", or "don't forget that warm parka/don't forget your umbrella"). Yet he is perhaps most famous and endeared for his phrase "a lovely day for a picnic".

I'll watch out for him :)

it seems that you have a great enthusiasm for weathermen :)

is this something that happens gradually over time or did it you just realise one random day?

can this happen to anyone? :( :p

I have been in love with Daniel Corbett for some time now. When he comes on the tv and does his routine I am transfixed for 3 minutes. His enthusiasm is astounding.

Does anyone know, is there a fanclub? Because I could be moved to such geekery in the name of Dan :D  :D

Oh, and I'm sorry Vogonity, but Rob McElwee annoys the heck out of me ... could he be further up his own arse?

I first saw Daniel Corbett years ago, back when News 24 had just launched and my insomnia meant I'd spend my nights blinking at the television. He vanished for a while, back to America I think.

The best weather presenter, of course, is Paul Hudson. His goading of the hapless Peter Levy on Look North is the stuff of legend. And he's the new Mayor of Wetwang.
