Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

Hello crafters :)

I wondered if anyone would be interested in coming to this: Exhibitions > Entangled: Threads & Making | Turner Contemporary which is dahhn in Margate. I can put a few people up if there's not many or perhaps it could be a day trip - easy to get here from S London.

This exhibition isn't open yet so I haven't seen it but there is also this: Exhibitions > The Studio Group Commission: Kashif Nadim Chaudry | Turner Contemporary which is bloody marvellous.

Anyway, if you fancy it, say yay and I can do a poll thread with dates :)

I've crocheted a simple beanie with (cat?) ears while avoiding assembling a cardigan.

I'm doing it now! I've not sewn bits together before and certainly not pieces from a pattern. I'll also have to do a bit of edge involving buttons that is also new to me. eek. etc.

Look up mattress stitch, it's the best way of doing simple seams.

I stalled at attaching the hood as I'd been counting stitches instead of just measuring and managed to lose one somewhere. Still progress.

I've recently finished a granny square blanket for someone at work who is expecting. Now though I've started a hat. The pattern is from 1935, is a tilted beret with flat bow and crocheted out of mercerised cotton. Never used this kind of thread before so it's interesting

Can you post the pattern pic, or a photo when it's finished please...I've been looking for nice beret patterns for ages.

They have a few to choose from so I may be heading back for others.....

So far this one is a doddle, it's all half double crochet (us)

I'm not too good with shaped crochet, so I think with this being a flat round, I might be able to manage....that's the theory, anyway :D

hand cut stencils :)

Does anyone want some wool for stuffing? I've got loads of wool insulation packs for keeping food deliveries cool. Like this. Are they any good for stuffing?

For toys for kids you really need approved toy stuffing. Although I think that's mainly about it not being inflammable and wool is not very inflammable. Someone might want it for felting? It's probably not spinning grade, I'd imagine they tend to use coarse leftovers for insulation...

made it into the studio today \o/ given that it's been locked up for the past 2 months there was a relative lack of mould

i've really been missing my museum and gallery trips to london, for inspiration top-up, not been in so long. but today was like a field trip - they've done various improvements since i was last in so it's getting cosier. and having all my work and tools and stuff together is really inspiring in itself - i don't have to move that pile of ironing off the table to work :) i'm really hoping i can get comfortable being there. it's a fantastic spot, a real community, with regular markets, events and pizza bringing people in - which all makes for a really good shop-front, if i can get the hang of it.

feeling really positive work-wise for a change :)

Those cufflinks are gorgeous.
Thank you VP. As I said in the post, they came out of a bangle that for some reason just didn't seem to work for me. It was quite heavy for a start. I love it when something not quite right becomes something I'm pleased with.

found out today there's an evening market on at the studio in time for mothers day. i like the open studios, kids and mates can come - much less pressure than a full-on craft fair or show opening and i have a door i can shut if need be ;)

it's a short enough deadline - around 10 days - which gives me time to focus on some batch-making of stuff i know sells, so enamelling jewellery and casting mirrors :) i have pretty much all the materials on-hand so no excuses getting them done.

plus i have some time/notice to primp up the studio - i love the reactions i get when people come in. i've put a lot of time and love into setting it up and i think that comes across :)
