Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

That is a mammoth hand stitching effort SheilaNaGig ! I much prefer applique in quilts, because I like curves rather than fabric cut into geometric shapes.

Yes, I'd wait for a sunny day and dunk it in the bath with handwash liquid and lukewarm water. I'd leave out the vinegar, but it probably wouldn't do any harm diluted.

Lovely chairs, Boudicca
I'm making a cylindrical draught excluder for my mother, her only request for christmas. I've already given up on the idea of a zip, and am currently wrestling with piping cord and bias strips. The air will be blue
Piping and bias strips - that's a very fancy draught excluder!

It is doing my fucking head in I've worked it all out with π=3.14 and all that, but it's still not fitting together right

Edit: many hours later, I've finished but realised it's a cm too long as I've cocked up my seam allowances when I put the piping in.

xmas hats 007.JPG O I will be glad to see the back of my christmas crafting. Some of the things have been on and off the needles 4-5 times and I have agonised over each of them. I had to completely redo the Minecraft hat, ignore 2 pairs of (too small)Latvian style mittens, and crack on with the now very familar gloves which most people seem to be getting. So, here are my 2 latest hats, including the rejigged Minecraft hat. Just got the bee hotels, a knitted cat, a Flower Fairy mirror and daughter's other glove, left to do.

I've been waiting impatiently for nearly 3 months for a piece of ebony to arrive from a sustainable source, and it eventually arrived, so I've finally fitted the handle to my latest knife.
It still needs polishing with some very fine sandpaper, but it's not looking tea bag.
The blade is 8.5". The core is made from Japanese VG10 steel with a herringbone ladder damascus san mai.
The handle is Gaboon ebony, with brass pins fixing the scales. I had a 4 leaf shamrock design EDM machined into stainless steel, and epoxied it into a length of copper tube, which was then epoxied into a length of brass tube before fitting it as the centre handle pin, then many hours of shaping and sanding.

Really beautifully made.

Can any crafters recommend a good sewing podcast or two? I have a couple of knitting podcasts that do me quite nicely but just recently I'm trying to develop my sewing (plus I always need more podcasts to combat insomnia - make up for not sleeping by vaguely learning). Any recommendations much appreciated.

Omg. There's one called Stitcher's Brew. Why is it not called Stitches Brew, which is a brilliant name for a podcast.

Lovely 8115 ! Very even. I always fail to count correctly and get uneven twists.

Meanwhile I am driving myself quite mad with the long floats on the intarsia bug sweater
