For another thread really but most working class people I know in Herefordshire identify themselves as countryside folk as well as (or instead of) working class. Fox hunting is just a touchstone for alot of anger at how the countryside has been fucked over by 'metropolitian' pricks in parliment.

Yep, same for everywhere rual I've lived, wether supposedly 'well off' (Hampshire), or not (Ceredigion).........

Also, my personal experience of these people leads me to dislike them strongly. they are the sort of arrogant, selfish, bigoted tossers who aren't worth a light.
They stood by whilst their mate Maggie launched all-out war on the workers, and cheered her on, and never gave a toss about the real misery and deprivation that came with all that.
Now, someone is doing one tiny thing to stop their barbarous, cruel fun - and they go mental. these people really do believe they have Divine Right, that they can do exactly what they like.

Excactly why I'm not keen on the hunt, but I'll bet there are lots of ordinary country people out there who have been conned into thinking an attack on the hunt is an attack on the countryside, whereas the truth is wether it stays or goes, the countryside is still being fucked over.

The countryside has many problems. Mainly social; lack of affordable housing, transport & amenities. Banning hunting is not one off them. Why do these people call themselves the voice of the countryside, would it be because they most likely own large parts of it..

re they are 'connected' - in fact I know they are, as hunt workers, followers etc. ... however, I can say from personal (childhood) experience, that most huntsmen (y'know, those on Horseback, in pinks) are, if not full toffs, upper-middle to upper-class

So are you saying that hunting on foot with dogs is working class (and hence OK) and hunting on horseback with dogs is upper class (and hence evil)? As someone who seems to know about the countryside, how would you control foxes? Poison? Shooting them? Giving them contraceptive injections?

A friend who grew up as a sort of honorary toff - father was a naval surgeon - reckoned that given a bit of patience, banning hunting would itself achieve the same effect.

The whole point of hunting, she reckons, is the Hunt Ball - to ensure that the posh sprogs get off with each other and only each other. Take away the Ball, and they'll breed out in one generation.

Why should killing foxes be banned while killing millions of chickens, pigs and cows is OK? Or do people just object to the *way* they are killed? Are people just asking for more humane methods to be used? And ehat is the libertarian position on the role of government in regulating people's behaviour where it doesn't impact on other people? What is the Marxist position on hunting? Should hun ting simply be banned until it is freely available to the working classes?
