Coronavirus: Key Worker Travel Thread

Probably worth reminding everyone, but despite the original advice (now deleted) saying only key workers can travel to work - the actual advice is travel to work is permitted "but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home". Therefore travel to work is legal, not only for key workers. Just discouraged if WFH is possible.

So nobody should be having to prove they are a key worker and show their papers.

Going back to work tomorrow after a week of self-isolating following some symptoms (though I am still not sure if I had it or not, but they've gone now). Will be interesting to see if I get stopped on my way.

Lady from work got pulled over this morning. They asked her why she was out, she told them she was going to work and where, they said okey dokey and off she went.
Where was that?

I've still been going to work as normal (London), far fewer people on the bus than normal, even pre-7am, but haven't even seen any police at that time, far less been stopped or seen anyone else stopped.

Today I was issued with a key worker letter

"...andysays is employed by London borough of X, working in estate grounds maintenance. This includes maintenance of green spaces so that residents can carry out permitted exercise..."

Don't know if it entitles me to shop special hours at the supermarket though...

We have a company letter and also a letter from each of the firms that contract us listing the sites we may have to go to. I'm not one of the field engineers so It's unlikely I'll have to go out but our other FEs have been driving around the country fixing problems at quite a few Waitroses and Sainsburys.

I've got a key worker letter now to wave in case I get approached by the fuzz.

I do think there will be another tightening of the lockdown rules again. It was ridiculous on the way to work today. Only a handful of pedestrians but did spot a group of 3, some twat on a bike skimmed past me while cycling on the bloody pavement. Far more cars than I expected and lots of them windows down, arm out, having a cruise round. Other general idiocy from people positioning and lots of drunks out with cans. Stinking headache now, can you tell!

Have my letter know who in the Pharma healthcare logistic side of things

waiting to get pulled over by the police and wave the letter

"Why you out and about "

"off to my job sending drugs around the world mr officer"

Saying that have only seen one cop car since Monday and that was outside the local farm foods

:hmm:

We have been issued with a key worker letter however my badge would suffice so I’m not worried about being pulled over. I have however felt a little self conscious on my street with people or cars passing when I’m
heading off to work & when I stopped at Tesco to get milk for work. I don’t wear my lanyard till I get to work.

I am utterly confused having seen what Frank posted above. The Government have made available a ton of money( is it 330 billion smackers) for employers to hand over to their staff who are on furlough to save lives, the NHS and so forth and who are therefore not earning. So it cannot be the case as my employers continue to insist that the current advice is that people who can work from home (and who are therefore still waged and not in need of a bailout) are the ones that should be staying at home only.My work is in fashion distribution and I was told on the record by the main boss at our gaff today that I would get nothing if I wished to be a "furloughed worker" during the pandemic because this huge chain was" unable" to access the Government funding at this time. And this despite the fact that,as I told them,I lived with a (very) aged parent.
Should have posted this in Lynn Doyle Coopers thread I suppose.

not sure our management have had time to think about key worker letters, but organisation is fairly well known locally as a transport operator, majority of staff are uniformed and those that aren't have a staff identity pass (which you're fairly unlikely to forget as it's also the building access pass and so on) - not heard of anyone being stopped for moving around in a suspicious manner round these parts yet.

I'm an electrician, self employed and thinking that, since I don't have any kids, when I hopefully get back to the UK on Sunday, I should make myself available for emergency work. I guess showing my tools etc should be enough?

Bear in mind that the authoritarian juggernaut that is the UK police service gets surprised that Christmas is on the 25th December at the end of most Novembers when it comes to forward planning. Its going to be the attitude test most of the time I would imagine. Not right but probably the future...

Well to be fair it is only once a year

I went to a Sainsbury's duing NHS Hour yesterday 👍 I told the SB chap on the door that I am essential, but not NHS, and started to explain and pull out my letter from The Ministry and he said it was fine :) It's not any law, it's at the supermarket discretion, I suppose. I felt guilty and weird the whole time I was in there though :D
