well that was .... aargghhhh!!! ... tense.

Columbia's spoiling game, whilst it put england off, never looked like it would get them a goal. When they actually decided to attack - in the last ten - minutes - they looked pretty decent.If they have dont that from the start they could well have won.
England seemed shell shocked for most of extra time. Again columbia should have gone at them whilst their tails were up.
Fair fucks for winning the penalty shoot out
Why young starts instead of rose is a mystery.
Stirling did his usual "im going to dribble through this tightly packed defence and score a wonder goal rather than pass it ... oh ive lost the ball".
Sweden - its going to be another tight game. England are at their best playing fast attacking football - but they don't have a creative magician who can create chances when the opposition are shutting up shop.

That is certainly my analysis. They should have had a man sent off in the first half, and refs need to start booking people for consent more, but once Columbia actually started playing they were very impressive.

On balance we deserved the win.

Not sure they need one tbh - the starting XI is the best balanced England have had since 96, or at least plays in the way that is closest to the talents of the respective players.
 
I didn't enjoy it (feeling better now I have had my long delayed dinner) Trippier was disappoint this game, Dele Alli injured, Lingard, Stones, Young, Henderson (all negative) Sterling (sleeping), Kane (invisible)...Maguire has been the best England player this tournament so far

Was alarmed at the obvious lack of communication (clearly needing some midfield general figure).

Me neither. I lived on the Llyn Peninsular for 3 years and didn't experience this sort of bitterness. I grew up with Evertonians though and accepted it as part on my upbringing though :)

Even the ABE thing tends to be largely good-natured. Although, not subscribing to the tribalism of the Beautiful Game, I probably don't notice - or feel - it in quite the same way.

But no - the Welsh nationalism I tend to encounter in this little corner of Wales tends to be about pride, not hate.
