you walked past a bloke doing that to a woman in the street and you'd think all this "not get distracted by her gender" bollocks? you'd think she might have been aggressive and deserved it? 'cos she still has teeth it's pretty much ok and can't have been that hard?

like fuck you would, you'd be disturbed at quite a violent and serious punch when there probably were other alternatives to the situation.
 
Don't know about Canada but if you give grief to a bus driver in the UK (who is already protected by a transparent shield) all they have to do is radio in and British Transport Police will turn up and deal with it.

Not sure if that option is available there (surely it is?) but a shield would have protected him from being assaulted.
 
He grabs her with both hands by the neck and squeezes her violently doesn't he? Far more dangerous than a punch.

No shields here; there are radios and transit police within easy range of most routes. Sometimes that's not good enough, though.

The judge pointed out she considered sending Louie to jail for up to a year but decided to impose the maximum 18-month conditional sentence for the crime, with strict conditions, followed by two years of probation.

"Bus drivers are at the mercy of whomever gets on their bus," the judge said of the violent attack.

The judge said she took into account that Louie has aboriginal ancestry and that he earlier offered an apology to Dixon.

The Supreme Court of Canada issued a ruling last month, reminding judges they must consider alternatives to jail for aboriginal offenders, if possible, because first nations people are over represented in Canada's prisons.

Dixon, 55, had parked his bus at the Edmonds Bus Loop on Feb. 15, 2011 when Louie jumped on through the back doors and refused the driver's repeated requests to enter by the front door.

Instead, Louie came up behind Dixon and sucker-punched him in the face, breaking his orbital bones in two places, causing a concussion and brain injury.

Dixon's son Aaron, who was on the bus at the time, chased Louie after the assault. Louie struck the son with a 1.2-metre piece of wood.
The court was told Louie has a history of alcohol abuse and had spent three months at the Victoria Wellness Centre, but had been released and was drinking at the time of the attack on Dixon.

The judge ordered Louie to abstain from drugs and alcohol during his sentence of house arrest.

It wasn't a haymaker, it was an uppercut. haven't you seen any of the multiple videos? Sadly his intention of doing it, presumably to bring the matter to a halt, was not achieved. She was back on the bus straight away and continued giving him a lot of abuse. He could not have hit her very hard, probably because he didn't want to end up in court. It looks like he got that aspect wrong as well, given that he has been suspended without pay. Strangely neither party wants to press charges. There were at least 3 videos made of the incident from different places on the bus. There is no hiding place any more with the advent of video phones and free access to YouTube.

Maybe, but look to see who first posted a video on this thread. Also perhaps you missed the bit where I said,"She was back on the bus straight away and continued giving him a lot of abuse." I got that from seeing all three videos that were on YouTube at the time I looked. I suggest this means that the blow was not that heavy. Also on another video she is interviewed and she talks about her face still hurting but there is no sign of bleeding or even bruising.

I think it just means that she withstood a heavy blow. Had her head or jaw been positioned differently, she might have bitten off her tongue, cracked a cervical vertebra, or fallen hard against a sharp edge. That blow could have killed her.

Not getting much value out of them, but if I stretch the pronunciation of the 3rd to Babatunde it's pretty good. Bah bah tooon day. Yup, that's got mileage. Still not as good as Shi'dea though, which has the whole "Goddess in bad tolkien ripoff" thing going on, or possibly a walk-on in Star Trek.
