Burger Thread. Yes!

from about 9:45 in this.
but its probably worth watching it all

Nice. I liked that series, but must have missed that one. I'll watch later before I go to the shop.

Tiger or Giraffe rolls? :hmm:

They say Tiger on the packet. Never seen giraffe ones. What's the difference?

In other burger news I have just been told we are off to the local Wetherspoons now for lunch.....

Don't forget, although it's not on the menu you can order a triple burger for hardly any extra. :)

Got people coming round tonight, so I'm loading the fryer with fresh oil for proper chips and making burgers. Got some Tiger Rolls for a bit of change...that and they were the largest ones going.

I think I missed the method about keeping the strands in the same direction. How do you do it?

It was earlier in the thread, apparently a Heston B method. Essentially you form your patties whilst trying to respect the direction the meet strands flow. So if I had bought a pack of mince from the supermarket and the contents looked as per below, I would just pull that gently into 4 quarters (4 people to feed in this house) then just push each quarter into a patty keeping the strands going in the same direction

Just googled Heston Burger and he describes the method here

ETA: Whoops, looks like someone beat me to it with a link to a video - that should be easier to follow

I posted his video of the method, above.
He uses cling film to wrap it in to a sausage, then slices burgers off of it.

Went for the 'Original Gourmet' burger deal with a pint of Strongbow for £6.99

6oz burger topped with two bacon slices and a Stilton, Shropshire blue and spring onion sauce. Includes six beer-battered whole onion rings. Three of the onion rings were inside the burger and three were on the plate.

Not my photo ^ nicked from the web for reference.

It was okay.
Good for the price.
Chips were pretty nice but the onion rings were average at best.

Burger was okay, two slices of bacon was a nice touch but the bun let it down I am sorry to say.
I did not get the flowery bap pictured above, instead I got a seeded bun which fell apart too easily and seemed a bit 'sweaty' to me :hmm:

I don't know if I'm a fan of that 'pressed mince' style patty. I've had it several times. It's good to have some coarseness to the meat, but when it's simply mince in a ball, it's too basic, too much like biting a chunk of mince of the block.

Plus I like to add a few extra flavourings to the meat, plain minced beef is ok with a bit of salt and pepper but is enhanced by slight additives such as herbs, onion, etc.

Nice review my man. I've not had a seeded bun at 'Spoons, it's always been the floury one. Tends to fall apart easily with the sauce.

I'm not a fan of blue cheeses either so I tend to go for the gourmet chicken burger with the montery jack cheese sauce which is bloody lovely.

Did you get a pathetic pot of relish that was nowhere near enough and in a useless paper ramekin that fell apart after a few dunks?

The sauce pot is a major irritation. Shame as the sauce it holds is not all that bad :(

Impressed myself last night. I used the method where you keep the strands of meat in line and made two 125g patties for each bun. As I couldn't mix in anything extra with this method, I sprinkled a tiny bit of msg, bisto finest gravy powder and pepper on each side whilst they were under the grill. Added cheese and salad. Because grill space was limited, I had to forgo the bacon, but didn't miss it at all, they were still epic and everyone loved them.

some friends on facebook are talking about trying this:

I think I posted it on here, before.
Its the same as eating 18 quarter pounders, and then some.

I saw this Grizzly one a while back, someone (possibly me?) posted up. Not seen the video before though

£60 is a lot of money for a challenge, you just KNOW you would never finish it :D

I ate one of them a few months ago.

I am sure I could easily eat two. The third might do me in though.

Was it good?

I think I could do two but would not enjoy the second one as much as the first :D

The bar staff said the challenge has changed slightly now too. They’ll just give you one big burger rather than 3. I can imagine that’s going to make it hard because it’d be harder to know where to start.

Sounds a bit meh to me.
Stuff down a £20 16oz burger and 16oz of chips in just for a tshirt, free drink and a photo on their wall.

Just had a BK Angry Angus. Was alright. Not that angry really.....

If I'd had time I would have gone to the local Flaming Grill Pub and had a proper burger - the Angrus was nearly as expensive as one of them

I have been a bit disappointed with my last couple of BK visits. Used to really hanker after the XLBDC at times but seem to have lost my BK mojo of late. The BK Challenge™ used to make me swell with pride, will I ever do it again? Only ever completed the BK Challenge™ twice since it's inception all those years back. Will I ever try again or is now lost, like tears in rain?
