Burger Thread. Yes!

I was saying to the bloke earlier that I'd like to go to one of the Buddies American restaurants that are dotted around Northampton to check out their burgers. Have you ever been?

That's a blast from the past! It's been many many years since I've been, but I do remember they were fantastic burgers. In fact probably the first place I had a "proper burger" and used to love going as a treat when I was kid.

I drive past them all the time and keep meaning to try one.
The burger menu is extensive to put it mildly

I would probably go for something fairly plain, although the Sorry Charlie made me chuckle - it comes with mushrooms and our boy (Charlie) loathes mushrooms :D

What's the general consensus on here on fish burgers? As lovely as all this red meat is, it's A) killing us and B) killing the planet. I reckon swordfish would make a grand burger (not that I'm claiming swordfish is in any way a sustainable source of fish :D).

I had a friend who went bald while having a burger in America, trying to be meek and modest, whilst her accoutre-part opted for 26 toppins and got a proper stack of a burger lumped upon his plate with a spear through the centre to keep it all together - and my mate realised that her European understatedness had undone her...!!!

That's not very exciting. At best I'd probably have two or three or those. Where's the cool stuff like cold chicken and onion rings?

I made some tuna burgers for a non-carnivorous friend once. They were alright, spring onion, paprika and chilli, but they weren't meat.

I'm gonna have a takeaway AND posh burger over the next two weeks:oops:, will report back :)thumbs: its not working right now)

Fish burgers WITH AMERICAN CHEESE, salad, and tartare sauce sounds fine to me :thumbs smiley:

We went to Buddies yesterday.
I did end up ordering the Sorry Charlie and really enjoyed it.
The burger itself was juicy, tasty and perfectly cooked - lots of char on the outside giving a lovely smoky flavour.
The mushrooms and (American burger) cheese were good additions.

I went for the standard bun, but I think next time I'd be tempted to try a brioche.
The fries were a bit meh (but perfectly edible) and the coleslaw was a bit too rich for my taste (I like home-made coleslaw with half mayo and half yogurt). Altogether a pleasing experience

Steak and honour? I had one a couple of weeks ago and it was AMAZING although it would have been better not to have eaten it having to almost fold my body in half over the small tables at Hot Numbers.
I saw them at the Gog Magog farm shop on Saturday and although I had already had lunch I was tempted to get another :D

The Buddies menu does look great, but whats the beef with putting fish and beef together on some of them burgers? Like the Barbara Streisand says smoked salmon and cream cheese, and another one has tuna mayonnaise . Unless those are veggie/ fish burgers but it doesn't say so :hmm:

Surf 'N' Turf innit? Works well! I've had pork and lobster on a burger and it was great! 1/3lb burger and a big-fuck-off-buttered-lobster claw on top. Expand your mind, duuuude

Don't be daft - surf and turf is a pretentious concept that thinks its smart but its stupid. It's gullible schmucks who fall for this fad, but i'll never be sold . Smoked salmon and beef do not go together in the same sandwich, geddit???:p

I'll have to see if I can drag the folks next time I'm back. My old man is vegetarian these days though. :hmm:

This thread used to be for the open minded...where did it all go wrong :(;)

Having fish and beef on the same sandwich is hardly progress, Cal. it's bad taste - like eating burgers on hotcross buns . Don't be fooled in thinking its adventurous - its just silly!

Some of us are sponges, open to the facets of life, others are stones ;). I'd try anything on my burger! I hold my ground against the closed minded. Sinners! :p:D:cool:
