BrewDog: yet another hip company using 'rebel' language to sell its stuff

If BrewDog is doing badly its because the pub sector in general is doing badly - hardly something to gloat about I would have thought

with regards to the closure of Brewdog Brixton specifically (not pub closures in general) is there any confirmation that anyone has lost their job? rather than being redeployed across the many other bars in the chain across London?

Enjoy the gloating...
I'm not gloating. I don't want pubs to close. Love pubs, love British pub culture. Look at my Untappd profile, you'll even find times when I was favourable towards Brewdog in the early days!

My point is that BD has turned into a monster and I'd rather monsters be slain. We know more now about their practices and attitude to regard them as morally corrupt as Wetherspoons, for that's all they are, Wetherspoons with a fade-cut.

I don't gloat about job losses, either. But people have to work for monsters sometimes, regrettably, such is life. What you should be doing is supporting the closure of Brewdog premises to allow for people to work in better conditions under better management.

Hey, don't go interrupting the self-righteous knee jerk froth that's going on here!

I don't give a shit about the closure of Brewdog bars with their toxic workplace but the good news is that even if the staff weren't redeployed within the shitty company, the hospitality industry is crying out for workers right now.

Yes, people losing their jobs! What fun!
Except you're taking shite. No one has lost their jobs. NO ONE.

A BrewDog spokesman added: “All staff have accepted roles in other BrewDog locations. There will be no job losses.

*admires egg all over some posters faces :)

Is it better to have a brewDog bar or have the premises knocked down and turned into luxury flats? I’m no brewDog fan. But sadly this has been the fate for many a closed pub for decades.

I'd prefer to have neither but I'd suggest that these premises will most likely be used for a bar/restaurant chain. I think they're unlikely to be turned into luxury flats any time soon.

Any Brewdog employees who've lost their jobs in South London will most likely end up working for other pub chains with worse employee conditions than at Brewdog.

I paid BD Waterloo a visit the other day and was very impressed.

I didn't try their beer because I don't like it but the food is as good as ever.

What was most impressive though is that they've created a workspace on the first floor where for (I believe) about £15 a day, you can grab a desk in the quietened co-working area, hook up to WIFI, get unlimited tea, coffee and water all day, and a pint after work! It's a nice space with meeting rooms, Zoom pods and table service; and if you don't want the coffee and booze, IT'S FREE!

Absolutely outstanding. The place was full of impressively busy youngsters when I dropped in but I'd recommend it to anyone who needs casual workspace in Central London.

I've still not been to the Waterloo one, but will try if just because I can't quite believe that it's that big.

It's enormous.

That's about half of it and the workspace runs the upstairs length of the other side.

Not everyone's idea of a pub but you can't deny the innovation, and it's always busy.

Dear Spymaster let me point you in the right direction. This is just across the road from Waterloo and has a good range of decent ales and lagers (possibly).
I know that bar. Guaranteed to be infinitely better than Brewdog's vile hipster fest of over priced shite.

I quite like the Hole In The Wall too.

I’m an aficionado of London pubs and whilst the Waterloo Tap has its place, it’s aimed at a completely different market. Try sitting in there all day and using their Wi-Fi without buying a drink.

BD is targeting a young aspirational crowd, not ageing failures like the haters on this thread!

Glad that's still open. used to go there a few times with my dad. That and the Duke of Sussex which is / was a decent boozer too.

The Sussex had gone downhill since Covid. It us d to be a decent food pub but they’re trying to make up lost ground by reducing the ingredient quality. The rotisserie chicken there last month was bone dry and burgers were leathery.

Also, their new pub sign is of Harry and Megan.

Risible; since when have pubs been for the "aspirational", whateverthefuckthatmeans?

If that's their business model, no wonder they're laying off workers without redeploying them.

Ha, sounds like it's changed a fair bit since last I was there. Should be having a day trip to London soon and thinking of dropping in for old time sake. used to be full of rail workers and ambulance staff back in the day. Don't recall them even doing food except the occasional barbecue.

Ok, you were there quite a while back. It's been a food boozer for at least 10 years.

Give me a shout when you're coming up.

There is no way I would sit in anywhere all day just for free WiFi. I would be happy with a couple of decent pints.
