Boomtown 2015

I love the Arcadia spider but after seeing it 2 years in a row as impressive as it is , it was the same old thing , I think the palace blew me away due to it reminding me of a chemicals brothers show :)
That's exactly how I felt. The spider was amazing but there's only so many times in want to see it in the same place.

The palace was such an incredible thing to look at and it fitted in better with the Boomtown theme, IMO.

I feel quite sad I didn't go this year I must admit. Glad the weather held out, the vibes were good and everyone (so far) had an ace time.have they changed the site layout massively? Anyone want to draw me a map? :D was our camping spot available? Favourite acts/sets?

I was going to say it reminded me of Tommorowland - that must be why!
i get nervous about this push for bigger and brighter and masser - im happiest under a low ceiling with lights off and a lot of smoke. Looks like a fun spectacle though! and glad everyone had a blast - fuck the rain

The important question is how did it sound??

But that's the best thing about Boomtown - there are loads and loads of small weird and wonderful clubs each with their own theme scattered around the site.

I dont really like big stages at all tbh in any environement...
but boomtown does sound fun....maybe next year!

Starting to go through the zillions of photos. Here's the first batch.

The faces of Boomtown festival 2015 – photos

speak for yourself mate :D

tbh while Banghai Palace was deeply hypnotic at night, i found it to be ultimately utterly soulless and a bit of a 1 trick pony, at least when compared to Arcadia.
the Arcadia lot built that spider themselves out of scrap 4 or 5 years ago, its far more original, far more interesting, far more versatile and it actually belongs to them.

Banghai's design was bought, as i understand it, off the shelf from Tomorrowland, the biggest EDM stage designer in the business, for as much as Boomtown could afford, then went massively over budget and was still fairly small compared to the company's usual designs, whilst still being just a bog standard stage with some funky tat on it. now the festival is over, the scaff and lights have gone back to their hire companies and Boomtown will be left with a few bits of decor they've paid a totally unfeasible amount of money for.

yeah, it was massively impressive, this year, if you've never seen a Tomorrowland design before, but personally, i think the Spider is in a league of it's own.

http://www.tomorrowland.com/global-splash/

blinding festival though.

Sorry but Banghai palace I think really up the game for British festival stages.

And I don't think it's quite "off the shelf". It was designed for boomtown, the Arcadia spider on the other hand is an off the shelf stage now, otherwise you wouldn't see it at boomtown, Glastonbury and bestival.

I don't think you're going to be seeing Banghai palace anywhere except boomtown.

I don't know when you last went but it was totally different to 3 years ago when I was last there. Much much bigger area, most of it up the hill and several more districts.

I thought Bang Hai Palace looked spectacular but the music was shit whenever I passed by, so I was very underwhelmed with it. It should have been banging.

Did you got to the Xmas office party?

I did, played pass the parcel, much fun and silliness. And a point well made.

Well, I am very impressed with Boomtown, absolutely loved it. My last two festivals it felt like somehow I just wasn't getting it, but this brought back the newness and enthusiasm.

Lovely, friendly people, barely even saw any rudeness, let alone trouble (the most unpleasant aspect was being on the gates seeing the campervans searched, that was quite a downer), weather didn't hamper things much, although I felt sorry for those arriving and putting up their tents Thursday, but it wasn't as bad as had been forecast.

I was well impressed with the range of music, the variety of stages. The incredible streets, there was so much more I wish I'd had time to explore. The little silly touches like the DOWNTOWN sign on the hill being changed to DONUT, and back again by the next morning, the dry ice swirling around the streets at midnight on Sunday, making it feel like a ghost town. Loved the site with it's hilliness, views, woods. I was unconvinced about the whole narrative idea about the Mayor and new leader beforehand, but yeah, it worked well, the visuals at Banghai Palace were good, liked the 1984 feel to it.

Good to meet Mation , TopCat , and JTG , and see sim667 , and shame I couldn't stay longer at the meet. I'm definitely gonna be back at Boomtown.

all these comments along with the endless big ups on facebook about the weekend make me gutted I didn't go.

So many cheap tickets flying around on the thursday as well when armageddon was forecast

Saw one sell for £80 on my facebook!

Was a really good festival and wish I got and about more now rather than spannerd in the campervan.... lol

Paid £38 for the Boomtique area and had one shower

Its sounding like there were lots of problems with security downtown, people having money "confiscated" because they were "drug dealers", having their own belonging confiscated because they were "stolen"..... Sounds like specialised bit off more than they could chew and had to get some dodgy ones in last minute.

yeah saw some stuff on facebook, once in had no issues with security, but there was gangs of bad boys everwhere....

I have to say that I found the security really low key, but it certainly seems that there was a problem with some individual wide boy wanker security there.

Also saw the police bring dogs into the site on the Saturday.

change my path fairly quickly lol

its really not fuckin cool to be bringing dogs INTO the site during the festival. you kind of accept and put up with it at the gate, but anything more is taking the piss

they've been bringing dogs into the arena for a while now, a mate got done in the hidden woods last year…

security seemed a bit all over the place, some decent ones, some shit ones, some pondscum. was told about 1 incident involving a small, peaceful very happy bloke who had been dancing around by an art car for ages suddenly being slammed face first into the side of it like it was an episode of COPS by some power tripping security guard for no reason at all, only for the guard to look round grinning just in time to meet fist of the small peaceful bloke's much larger and less peaceful mate. el sparko. you reap what you sow.
