Boomtown 2015

Ugh. Amazing!

Weather held out all weekend, the site swap around really helped the overcrowding around the lions den...... They still need to do something about circo bassline, I tried to go and watch DJ ez and you could barely get in the tent and when you did it felt like it was about 40 degrees. Dogs weren't a problem, only saw them in passing, although the they did also seem to be going around the campervan field with them and raiding people which was a bit shit.

Bang hai palace basically left me speechless...... I don't know what more I can say about it, it was astonishing what they'd built.

I have to say it, boomtown I'm sorry I even doubted you before I went, that was the best one I've been too.

Can someone please come along with some tales of woe and depression about the event? Because if not, I am seriously going to have to start considering this as a Glastonbury alternative.

Sorry mate it was definitely the best Boomtown I've had (and I've had some good ones!!)

Just sorting out a vid of the BangHai palace in all it's glory.

I had an absolute blast, this was my third time going to boomtown I had my doubts after 2014 it seemed like the festi lost its magic, but Its back! The crowd was great they definitely brought the vibes, the only issue I had was being told to go smoke my spliff somewhere else, was at the psy forest at the time I wasn't being blatant but I think being stuck listening to psytrance for hours would drive anyone nuts.

Well time to chill out and work out what to do with my mashed up feet

The spiral tribe street party yesterday afternoon was wicked, so many old friends i haven't seen for years !!
I was on an early morning stroll yesterday and saw them loading a load of kit in, which was unusual for mid-festival. Forgot about it, then when we found the party in full swing I turned to wiskers and said 'this wasn't here yesterday was it?!'

the Saturday afternoon was another street birthday party for one of the bassline circus crew and was just as good tbh but with less techno

Musical things:
Skimmity Hitchers, Screamin' Miss Jackson and the Slap Yo' Mama Big Band, Beans On Toast & Peatbog Faeries in the Wild West
Slamboree (who seem to have got their mojo back after looking tired for a while), Gogol Bordello & Flogging Molly in the Town Centre
David Rodigan giving us a whistle stop tour of the history of ska, reggae, jungle and drum n bass, Chopstick Dubplate & Mungo's HiFi at the Lion's Den
Mr B in the Mayfair Ballroom
Surgeon, Noisia & Goldie b2b Dillinja at the Bang Hai Palace
The sound at the Boombox - dunno whether it was due to the shipping containers hemming it in but it was immense
DJ Producer & Hellfish at the Bodyshop - brutal fun

I may well have missed a bit of stuff out, brain's fried

Dear Arcadia,

You're going to have to up your game somewhat

Regards
Everyone at Boomtown

speak for yourself mate :D

tbh while Banghai Palace was deeply hypnotic at night, i found it to be ultimately utterly soulless and a bit of a 1 trick pony, at least when compared to Arcadia.
the Arcadia lot built that spider themselves out of scrap 4 or 5 years ago, its far more original, far more interesting, far more versatile and it actually belongs to them.

Banghai's design was bought, as i understand it, off the shelf from Tomorrowland, the biggest EDM stage designer in the business, for as much as Boomtown could afford, then went massively over budget and was still fairly small compared to the company's usual designs, whilst still being just a bog standard stage with some funky tat on it. now the festival is over, the scaff and lights have gone back to their hire companies and Boomtown will be left with a few bits of decor they've paid a totally unfeasible amount of money for.

yeah, it was massively impressive, this year, if you've never seen a Tomorrowland design before, but personally, i think the Spider is in a league of it's own.

http://www.tomorrowland.com/global-splash/

blinding festival though.

I love the Arcadia spider but after seeing it 2 years in a row as impressive as it is , it was the same old thing , I think the palace blew me away due to it reminding me of a chemicals brothers show which in turn reminded me of old Pink floyd shows :)
