Boomtown 2022

I refer everyone to my October post.

Same deal as before re tickets, rollover or refund. I think it would be wise to refund with the option of a donation. Festivals are starting to become savings accounts with zero protection. A lot of people paid for the Boomtown tickets in 2019, they release the tickets in October I think. If they run it in '22, nearly 3 years with at least 18 million in the bank? What's the security around that money? Could someone run off with it? etc.

I think cleaning the slate like Shambala has decided to do is very sensible.

Might some of the money be with ticketing agencies?

I lived 5 miles away from it till 2017

Got a lot of local friends with 18 year old kids who are breathing a sigh of relief :D

it’s a shame as it’s an amazing experience......somewhat fucking excessive in various ways🤣

I’d need to get in training for 2022

I vaguely remember a 0600 Hunter S Thompson-esque breakfast washed down with mulled cider followed by balloons. Stiffening the resolve for the final last day push

I know this is also being discussed on Urban's Coronavirus subforum (events/festivals thread), but I'm actively angry!! about the scumbag Government giving no thought at all (it seems) to facilitating event insurance for festivals :( :(

FFS!!

How difficult would that be??? :(

I'm even more determined now, to return to Boomtown in 2022 mind-you  :)

Next year will be my retirement/semi-retirement year!  but also

I will need to organise a lift this time though!! ;) :D

i shit you not, one year I got my dad to pick me up and get me home

I was 44 at the time :D

I can't even drive, and I'm 58, but I know one or two Boomtown-minded people in Wales (and with vans) that can! :)

Last time (2019) the trains and buses were an ultra-hard-working effort!!
Carrying even a limited(ish!) amount of festival-tat ..... :(

Update:

Boomtown 2022 Final Opportunity for tickets

TONIGHT at 7pm

The final opportunity to get a ticket to Boomtown 2022 is happening TONIGHT at 7pm. Although It may well feel a long way off right now, Boomtown’s much-anticipated resale of refunded tickets will kick start proceedings for the countdown to the mighty return of the much-loved event in 2022.

Originally, the resale was scheduled for refunded tickets to Boomtown 2021 after the festival sold out in record time back in February (2021). However, after making the impossible decision to cancel the 2021 event back in April, Boomtown is using the same resale date to offer those who missed out on getting tickets in the past few months. It is one last opportunity to get their hands on what is probably one of the most coveted tickets for the 2022 UK festival season.

After two years enforced hiatus due to the ongoing complexities around COVID-19 and events, 2022 is the year that will finally see the reemergence of this unique pop-up fantasy world and there is a huge number of people signed up for a limited number of tickets. The buzz is that all tickets will get snapped up pretty quickly and once these tickets are gone, there will be no more ticket releases for Boomtown 2022.

Boomtown is urging people to be prepared by following these steps:

Don't forget to:

  • Create a TicketSellers account
  • Be ready just before 7pm
  • Know which ticket you want to buy

Boomtown are putting on an event for local people: Boom Village: Boom Village
Not had much success getting any lineup info (is there one!?).

The tickets are 180 quid, and there'll be 4,000 people max (assuming the lockdown rules change on June 21).
It feels like an expensive camping weekend, and I'm not sure the local residents are the life and soul of Boomtown.
But could be kinda fun

Anyone else heard about this event?

Well, more than a week later and they haven't sold out yet. Not surprised really, bit odd buying tickets for a festival more than a year away.

There's a mini Boomtown coming up. For £220.

BOOMTOWN LAUNCH BOOM VILLAGE

TICKETS ON SALE TONIGHT AT 7pm!

Following the postponement of Boomtown, the organisers behind the 66,000 capacity music and theatrical festival have announced the launch of Boom Village; an intimate music festival packed with celebration, creativity and connection a fraction of the size of the usual event. The extremely limited Tickets to this much anticipated event will be released this evening at 7pm.

Boom Village is a one off magical, family-friendly and sustainability focussed music festival. Taking place in the Matterley Estate nr Winchester, over the 12th-15th August it will bring music, escapism and creativity to all generations.

For four magical August days and nights, festival goers will be able to explore a hidden world that includes the curiosities of Boomtown’s handcrafted Oldtown district which will be brought to life with the new, vibrant and colourful central Village Square. They will be able to dance on the sandy floors of the iconic sun-soaked Forest Parties, and rest and rejuvenate in the Forgotten Valley; a beautiful space filled with craft, wellness and family entertainment. All of which will be flooded with hundreds of musicians, colourful walkabout performers, parades and theatre shows.

The final piece of the puzzle is the handpicked musical soundtrack reminiscent of Boomtown, which will underpin all of the activity and complete the atmosphere. With a focus on UK artists, the audience can expect all styles of underground electronic music as well as grassroots live bands known from the hidden gems and stalwart small and medium stages of Boomtown. Explore the areas, stages and musical styles here.

Lak Mitchell, Boomtown Co-founder and Creative Director says: “After starting and stopping 6 events over the past two years we really can’t quite believe this is happening and are so excited to bring Boom Village into the world! We will be harnessing the original Boomtown creative concept and bringing our smaller scale event to life with all the knowledge, understanding and skills that we collectively have gained over the years. Boom village is going to be truly special on every level. The whole team is working really hard to make sure we emerge into this post-Covid world with a new sense of what it truly means to come together, connect, respect and celebrate.”

Since Boom Village is significantly smaller in size to Boomtown, this has provided the organisers with the opportunity to try out new environmental initiatives and processes on a more manageable scale. As a bold statement to help Boom Village’s carbon footprint, and raise valuable awareness on how to restore balance to the planet and to safeguard biodiversity, the first of the event’s sustainability trials to be announced is that Boom Village will be going meat and fish free. Throughout the show there will be an amazing range of independent food traders offering incredible mouth-watering veggie and vegan offerings that bring with them varying flavours from across the world!

TICKETS ON SALE

Tickets go on general release at 7pm tonight (Monday 28th June) for £220 (+BF & Ecobond). All ticket information available here.

I had a head start on tickets for that, as a local, and was actually going to go this year, but another festival I've got a ticket for postponed to that weekend.

I was all set to buy a ticket but it’s more than twice the price of the usual local resident ticket and there no line up announced.

I bought a ticket for 'Boom Village' earlier. Im not confident it will go ahead and it seemed expensive (£237 with all the fees), but fuck it i need something to look forward to and with travel basically banned for young(ish) ones like me without 2 shots of the vaccine, this will probably be the best summer 'holiday' in the UK i can think of.

I have noticed the narrative from Boomtown about the event has subtly changed from a small camping event for locals, to basically a mini version of the festival. I reckon if they flog enough tickets, they'll put on a decent little festival, with as much of the stages and decor stuff they have stashed away in Bristol at the event site as they can manage.

That's my reading too. Certainly the local press was all about a small event for locals.
There's a lot of locals who "aren't exactly in favour" of Boomtown.

I'm in, it was great 2010 when it was just in the bowl. I think this will be the same.

I am feeling more confident about these going ahead than I did. I was puzzled at Boomtown not adding in a non-refundable amount like Shambala did.

Any news why?

If anything the situation has become more positive (in terms of being able to stage an event) than when they announced it?
I’m on my phone so can’t copy and paste it but it’s on the website. Risks too high etc. Ticket holders and their mailing list got an email this morning.

I would say there is a high chance, as scientists have been trying to tell the government, that cases will absolutely balloon once the restrictions are dropped next week.

The festival was meant to be in 1 months time- what if half the crew are ill or isolating? And punters for that matter.

"We are truly sorry to have to say this again, but we have had to make the incredibly hard decision to cancel Boom Village.

These past few days we have been back in the excruciating position of weighing up every possible scenario to see how we might be able to proceed. There is so much excitement out there for us to come together and host this beautiful festival but sadly the risks of holding the event now outweigh all the wonderful reasons for going ahead.

The core decision is due to the escalating cases of COVID-19 across the country, and the risks that widespread illness and self-isolation could have on our crew and contractors, which would result in us not having enough people to build and deliver the show to the high public safety standards we uphold."

Official line is: Covid rules / infection rates.

There's some quiet 'vibrant' discussion on the local community facbook page. People generally seem surprised that it's been cancelled. And a few unhappy punters

I have to say I am disappointed.
Not got a refund yet, but I pay for these things on the credit card. So none of my money has been spent yet.
