Boomtown 2013 8th-11th August

Not sure who else (gerryonetime aside  ) was at Friday's shenanigans in Bristol.

Could have done with better beer/cider choice too. Boomtown's former 'Recydrate the West' ancestry ;) is now dead -- no actual scrumpy to be found ...

Definitely not dead - we did try for the scrumpy and the venue were not up for it :( - it will be flowing at the fair though I can assure you of that ....including a very nice selection of ales :hmm:

Hope you can make it this year WW !

Yeah, I got the impression it was a 'venue bar list or nothing' kind of situation. Shame, but with that and the massively overbearing security, I won't be going to Motion again. Nothing to do with Boomtown mind.

Im sure I can put my organising hat on and try to arrange something :) something slightly more successful than last year :D

Awesome, I'd be up for whatever I reckon!

still no idea if I can go- I need to save like mad to make sure I've no debt come October since I finish my phd then and I've no source of income after that. and i'm due to submit my thesis 6 weeks after. the plan is to submit a draft to my supervisor on the day before I go and do corrections when I get back. and I'd need to either have a job lined up or saved enough. but I need a flight from belfast which always bumps the price of fests up.

but its a good motivational tool anyway

Can you not get a cheaper ferry from belfast?

Probably, but going to scotland. WHich means AGES on a train or bus and the whole thing would probably work out the same. Liverpool ferry is pretty expensive (and takes ageeeeees) iirc

it's shit and you'll hate it ;)

sweet, another few pay days away then. ta!

so you'd go belfast -> Scotland -> boomtown?

I can see why it'd be expensive now.

only other ferry is the liverpool one, but its expensive afaik. if you go down to dublin there's the wales ferry (I think) but again I think it's pretty pricey too and there's the travel time too n from dublin

och used to it, any fest I wanna go to you have flights to put on top of it

so i'd be flying, gatwick or bristol

anyne any idea when you need to pay the remaining half of your ticket by?

also, full line uo out today- body shop looks tasty, outside agancy, current value, producer, loftgroover and the sect amongst others

plus iration stappas vs channel one

don't see any hip hop though, but stoned do probably not just looking hard enough

Producer and The Panacea really made my weekend last year so I'm over the moon with all these, Cooh also! The Outside Agency do a fucking insane live set.

I missed em last year at bangface due to too much 3-meo-pcp :rolleyes: so another reason to be going :hmm: Lets call it motivation for getting shit done in uni... One of the biggest things putting me off is that there's so many people I know going :D I kinda go to fests to escape all the bollix I've to hear every weekend. At least boomtown's big, there was a fuck ton of people from here at bangface and all our fuckin caravans seemed to be right by each others. was just like belfast in a caravan park

Last year I managed to get a perfect mixture of company from friends close and far, and lots random encounters / new friends to keep my brain nice and detached. Hopefully this year will be the same!

Heads up: there's a competition to win two tickets and a Boomtown minirig on their facebook page at the moment, you've got to come up with an anti-tagging line. Might be worth a punt if anyone's strapped for cash and having a slow afternoon

No it's not that one :D I'd be happy to see them choose that though. Cue lots of awkward explanations from parents..

Anyone taken kids to Boomtown? We're seriously considering taking our 4.5 year old, the kids area & activities look really good. Looks like a chilled vibe, am I right?

it did look amazing from the outside
iirc ringo may have taken kids and think they said that they wouldn't again

Yep, took them two years ago. The kiddy area was great, they really enjoyed it, but the rest of the festival is a bit on top for nippers. It's a proper munt fest. I wouldn't take them again tbh, too many people stumbling about absolutely off it. I'd go without them though :D

Hmm. We've done Beat Herder a couple of time with her when she was smaller, that's quite similar. Will have to think about it.

in the past - i would have said it tricky ....but with the new site layout for 2013 and the massive work we are putting into the family areas I would say this year will be much easier for you !!
kidz village is situated within the oldtown district so you are right in the heart of the circus, caberet, gypsy, balkan world - and not stuck out on a wim !! hope this helps
ps please note that downtown is over 12's only after 7pm

xx
