BooMTown 2011 - chapter 3

It's reggae/ska/dub during the day. Drum'n'bass at night. It's not a big field with tents in, it's an artificial 'downtown' with streets to wander and get lost in, with tiny venues/stalls/odd things behind fake building frontages. It's "full of munters" apparently :D

Well apparently tickets are still available. So sell it to me.

What's good about Boomtown.

I reckon you would proper hate it. Maybe it's too full of munters, maybe if there were just one more it would form some kind of munt singularity and fall straight through the earth...maybe :hmm: ;)

Which part of 'epic lineup' are you struggling with then TC?

TBF I think it had already exceeded munter saturation density last year. ;)

One overspill effect was people still munted by Monday lunchtime. They could barely walk, never mind pack their stuff up. I don't know what would have happened to them. Munter landfill? :D

I'm not driving, I am being chauffeured. I'm guessing that the tatting down to move off site will be the 'ram it in the cupboards and hope it doesn't all spill out' variety though. :)

so looking forward to this. it's the only festival i'm doing this year so it had better be even better than last year!

saw a hampshire news article saying it was at matterly bowl this year....

Im surprised if it is seeing as the popo made it so difficult for glade there last year it had to be cancelled.

Just googled, looks you're right about the venue. Not a bad choice. The bowl works well I think, adds to the vibe of being in an enclosed world. And still easy to get to for Londoner's (although last year's venue was probably the ultimate... It took me 90 mins from Euston, to get my tent pitched! And way easier for those coming from the Midlands and the North).

Another good thing about Matterley bowl is that it recovers from rain incredibly quickly. IIRC it's natural drainage, something to do with chalk.

As for police probs, what was claimed by Glade was that the police wanted to up their numbers, which meant a higher bill. Maybe Boomtown have factored that in to their budgets. (fwiw the ticket price this year is *alot* more than last year, in %ge terms.)

I'm going. If any of you see me wandering around looking confused and well rough, could you gently lead me to substances which will exacerbate this. I thank you.

i've seen information suggesting it's somewhere else entirely.

I must be going blind - whereabouts does it mention Dorset?

It does but not on the home page, look where it says available shifts and scroll down.

Dorset is only 40 miles from Winchester....so not all that much further from London, though it puts it well outside the 'hour's drive west of London' that was promised...

Of course we could all just wait a couple of days till they email us where it will be....fun as idle speculation can be...

Ah gotcha. Another 55 miles, and another hour+ by road.

If that's true it's a bit annoying. Was hoping to do this as an after work Friday run from London. Not sure I need *four* nights of Boomtown, in my advancing years ;)

Can't complain too much though - it's a freebie.

It costs extra to camp in your own vehicle, otherwise it's free. Chances are all the truck tickets will be gone by now anyway. Apparently last year thy were funny about it being a real camper or live in, not just van+mattress combo.

So...anyone know of any work other than with festivalvolunteer as they want a 168 quid deposit which is quite a bit if you're unemployed. :hmm:

fks sake
