BooMTown 2011 - chapter 3

Yep, just 4 lanes through the check-in, with rather flustered stewards, fiddly wristbands, and security checks in-line, rather than off to one side. They needed 4 times that number. They were saying they didn't expect such big numbers on Thursday. Well duh!

They did have a bunch of fence jumpers early on. I overheard a panicked steward on someone's radio saying "there's too many! we can't stop them!" - there were some tent thefts just along from our campsite. But I didn't personally see any funny business all weekend.

Lots of wristband fiddles going on.

From speaking to randoms / seeing stuff going on, I witnessed about 10 personally, so there must have been hundreds.

As for fence jumpers, saw a group of five 'on approach' when I was on the Arcadia Armadillo briefly outside the fence.

(Wasn't too different at SGP or Glastonbury in recent years. When something is oversubscribed, all the tricks get played)

Quite.

Any festival that's putting on a proper show gets a massive "early doors" pile in these days. It's not a cheap holiday* and people want their money's worth.

* Unless you're happy with "stuff in a field", and Dreadzone. ;)

SGP had the same issue last year. This year, after just about everybody complained, they had something like 100 people on the gates at the start, 20 min wait.

Had a wicked time, big improvement on last year I'd say (apart from Barrington Levy/his management fleecing the organisers and Cutty Ranks/Capleton not being allowed into the country because of the riots *sigh*) - highlights for me were The Bug, The Apples ("KILLINGIN THE NAME OF!" :D), Bong-ra (Ridiculousness, I was shell-shocked at the end!) and Mr Benn (party reggae-dancehall-hiphop mash ups at their best).

One downside was having my brand new camera stolen from my tent in the early hours of the last night :(
...Though to be fair it's still possible I could've lost it around 2-3am but I'm edging towards thieving toe rags - checking the Boomtown Facecrack page there seems to have been a LOT of it. That and the FOUR hour queue were my lowlights.

Reckon I'll be back next year though :D

Not quite sure of the details yet but it would seem my daughter's tent was ransacked on Sunday night. Whoever did it left a radio and what appeared to be a security pass with name, photo and shift details :hmm: She reported it to someone (not sure who), who asked for the radio back and told her they couldn't to anything about it and that she could email after the festival! She still has the pass, so I'll get on the case tomorrow when I find out exactly what happened. If anyone has a direct link to any Boomtown organiser I'd appreciate a pm.

Dubstep was pumping on late Sat... like heavy techno / grime / d'n'b mashup? I'm not a big fan of it meself, but there was two really square looking bods busting some fucking heavy tunes - they had seriously dodgy hair but the basslines were fierce!
Found out now - turns out it's only new to me... It was bassline house.

Oh the shame! I like house  :(

nowt wrong with bassline. ignore the "house" part ;)

i really wanted to go to this but bad timing with coursework for uni meant i couldn't justify it if i was going to pass! am somewhat jealous though, the lineup looked right up my street

Report it straight to the police ;)

She should have kept the radio, the posh ones they use are about £300 each.

Ah, that makes sense... yeah I was definitely getting my freak on to some of that too, thinking about it. There were definitely some very fucking seriously heavy tunes being played. That's a fact :)

Its not bassline house really is it?

If its what im thinking off its built on a garage structure.

Im not really sure which is worse.
