This is really shocking stuff.

6.30pm The game has officially been abandoned, and Fabrice Muamba is reportedly on his way to hospital.
6.29pm Sky News have reported that Muamba had CPR on the field. The ESPN tunnel reporter says that many of the players have tears in their eyes, and that Muamba wasn't breathing when he was stretchered off the field.
6.27pm ESPN have confirmed that nobody was near Muamba when he collapsed. It doesn't matter, of course, but I'd say there's no chance this game will continue.
6.24pm On FiveLive, Ian Dennis has reported that Fabrice Muamba is fighting for his life.
6.22pm I didn't see what happened with Muamba; apparently he collapsed with nobody near him.
6.21pm ESPN have confirmed that Howard Webb has not officially abandoned the game; he is taking further advice and, presumably, waiting to see what happens with Fabrice Muamba. The ground is completely silent.
45+4 min Howard Webb has called the game off, at least for the time being. It's the only decision he could make.
45+3 min Muamba is now on a stretcher, and is being carried off. This does not mean he has been resuscitated; apparently they are still attempting to do that. The Bolton chairman Phil Gartside is down at the pitchside, talking to Howard Webb and Owen Coyle. How can you carry on a game after this?
45+2 min Attempts to resuscitate Muamba are still ongoing, and apparently a defibrilator has been used. This is just horrible.
45+1 min After a brief chant of Fabrice Muamba's name, the crowd falls silent. Nigel Reo Coker is on his knees, resting his chin on his fist.
44 min There's a woman crying in the crowd. This is horrific. The whole crowd is completely silent, and medical staff from both teams are gathered round Muamba. ESPN's cameras are not even showing the players anymore. Howard Webb has both his hands clasped together; he looks in significant distress.
42 min Fabrice Muamba has suffered a very nasty injury. I'm not sure precisely what happened, but you can tell from the grave tone of the ESPN commentator Jon Champion – and the body language of the players – that this is extremely serious. Rafael Van der Vaart has his hands over his face, and ESPN's Jon Champion says that there are attemps to resuscitate Muamba. This is awful. All the players are in complete shock.

They are doing a good job despite the situation........what else could they do.

Just put something else on until there's something to say.

These poor fuckers are as shocked as anyone - they're saying everything we are all thinking (Like Marc Vivian Foe) and it's not very sensitive reporting.

They are doing a good job but they shouldn't have to - they're all visibly upset.

What equipment do they have at hospital in these situations that's not able or practicle to be kept at a stadium?

What you would you suggest........?

Not sure there is a president to be honest :(

Distressing as fuck, hope he is ok though didn't look good....hoping for good news he's only 23

I preferred their solemn words to the fucking tacky adverts that are now on..

Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Fabrice Muamba has been taken to hospital following his collapse at White Hart Lane this evening during the FA Cup quarter-final.
There is no further information at this stage.

Well, for a start, they are not going to crack open your chest and have a doctor pump your heart with their hands on a football pitch - to give but one example. Poor bloke, he's got fitness and youth on his side, hope he pulls through.

Posted on Spurs thread, but probably more relevant here:

I hope he's okay, but I'm afraid the chances of that are tiny. CPR rarely revives anyone, it just keeps the brain oxygenated - to some extent. If the defib didn't do the job then even if they revive him once he's at hospital then it's not a good outlook after that length of time.
I hope they brought him round in the ambulance.

Agree with what someone said that it's probably a case of informing the family before announcing on the news. :(

This seems to be something that happens from time to time, very fit youngsters collapsing on football pitches, usually down to undiagnosed heart defects, from what I understand.
